    2002 Futura intermittent idle issue

About a month or so ago there was a post about a Futura not dropping to idle for a few seconds when the clutch is pulled in. I searched for the post but couldn't find it. I have this intermittently happen on mine. It starts fine (cold or hot), but on occasion when I'm coming to a stop, pull the clutch in and close the throttle, it doesn't close all the way until I drop it in gear. The idle isn't real high, it drops several hundred rpm when I put it in gear.

Is the stepper motor causing this?

Other than this the bike runs fine.

This seems to be a common issue lately, no concrete diagnosis has been posted yet to my knowledge. I suspect TPS or ECM mods (PCIII) if applicable.

See my thread on STEPPER MOTOR ILLS. I had a similar problem. I think the bulk of my problem was caused by leaks in the vacuum lines.

i to had simmulair issues. i ran fine in neutral but the idle stayed high in gears. i suspect that the idle control valve is active in gears in order to smooth out the fueling (less natchy ride). when in neutral the engine picks up quicker and the revs drops down faster then in gears (checked on the main stand) .

i checked the vacuum line (in perfect condition), the clutch membrame (no leaks) and the stepper motor (no residu inside). i finally found that the connector to the idle stepper motor was not snapped in entirely (only 99 %). maybe you have a dirty connector ?

    good luck fixing it.

My idle isn't high, except on cold start. It feels like the throttle is closing when I close it at the hand grip. It's intermittent, and the idle doesn't stay high or anything. It feels like the idle drops when I pull in the clutch and close the throttle, but not all the way - seems to stop just above where it's supposed to be.
