    Dorsoduro touring mod's (luggage and

Im looking to do a tour of Ireland shortly and want to get a few trick bits to make my life a bit easier.

The rides wont be that long, maybe only 80 - 100 a day so the luggage doesnt need to be huge, maybe only 40 litres ish. Does anyone have any reccomendations? My mate is selling a 42 litre givi box off his hornet but obviously it doesnt come with the correct fitting brackets etc (im a complete novice to this so ANY info is greatly appreciated!!) Do you think i'd be able to buy the rack etc separately?

Also, i can borrow satnav off a friend but i'd need to get the 12v charger installed on the DD first, does anyone have any idea where to buy the kit or wether i could do it myself?

    Cheers!

You can definately buy the Givi rack separately. Here is a link to the saddlebag and top racks, but you might be able to find them at a UK dealer:

    http://www.givi.it/My-motorcycle/?ma...uro-750-08--11

Here is the link to the Easylock Saddlebags:

    http://www.givi.it/soft-luggages/Sad...TPH10-EASYLOCK

I would be really interested in hearing about them if you decide to buy, since I am considering them as well. What I would really like to do is get a universal rack combined with the Givi saddlebags, but I'm not sure how they would both mount to the same point (which you must drill in the rear fairing). With that setup, I could use the rack for other things besides a top case (such as additional fuel tanks).

Hepco-Becker also makes top rack and side case mounts:

I have Kappa (same as Givi) top case rack with 36l box. Very happy with it. Very solid construction with passenger grab handles. Only thing I didn't like about it is making four holes on rear faring. Also if you have non stock exhaust it might be problem with length of supplied screws because same fitting hole on rear frame is used for rack and some exhausts.

Also check Kriega soft bags (http://www.kriega.com/categories/Bike-packs/) which I use on my shiver.
    I have US-40 (http://www.kriega.com/products/UScombo40-DryBag-.html) and the tank adapter (http://www.kriega.com/tank/).
They are built like a tank and are waterproof. Easily installed and removed so you don't have to bother with installing mounts for the hard cases and your bike will still be pretty when you don't need the bags. The combo is also modular so you if you carry less baggage you can leave a bag or two at home. They are very good in fitting all shapes of luggage and once you take something out of the bag you can adjust the size of it and it will not flap in the wind or have your items jumping in the empty bag/case. Now I'm looking into getting R3 waistpack for carrying camera.

hi Thanks for the replies, i looked at the GIVI racking etc last night, really do not want to drill holes in my pristine DD so leaning more towards the Kriega stuff.

more research required, it seems there's as many bags/luggage as there are things to do with them! I'll keep you informed anyways!

My Dorsoduro has the arrow cans and leo vince de-cat so the type of bags that rely on strapping might not do to well in the heat

Has anyone attempted to fit a 12v output for satnav etc to a DD or shiver yet?

Just strap it under the seat or on passenger bars as I did on my trip. It gets warm but nothing to be alarmed about.
For 12V output search the forum, plenty options there just make sure the output connector is waterproof (http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/s...v-power-socket, check the post No.2).
I just ordered Arkon GPS holder with RAM handlebar mount and will report once installed. I'm also going to install 12V connector for the GPS which will be most probably something like the post 2 on the link above.

+1 Kriega - I have used a US-40 for commuting these last two years and it is bullet proof.

    Kriega. I've got a 10 and a 20 and I love them both.

Is anybody using Kriega waistpacks? If so what's the verdict? I'm thinking of using R3 to have a camera handy.

Don't know how inexpensively you want to do this. For a few years I packed with two school type back packs zip tied together at the top handles and draped over the rear of the seat of my bikes. I even went so far as to have velcro sewn onto the back side of the pack and then placed the corresponding velcro on the side panels of my bike so the packs didn't move around. I was able to pack clothing and other essentials for week long trips. When you want to take the velcro off gasoline will remove the glue on the side panels. You can find back packs in many varied sizes depending on your needs and there's no permanent effects on your DD. I have made up a rack system for my DD that bolts into the supplied mounts for the factory grab handles and now use soft bags for my trips.

Here's my Kriega US-30 on the tail of my Shiver....

I've done overnight rides and it takes everything I need.
You'd need more space for mult-day touring though

The screen is off a 2003 GSXR1000 I had. I just trimmed it a little and it slid in front of the speedo and behind the light bezel. I later added a couple small bolts so it wouldn't slide around. It is the best wind protection I have ever had on a motorcycle. It is like standing up when it comes to smooth wind over my helmet and yet it keeps the wind off my chest and neck.

No mate - stock Red/Black livery on a 2012 Shiver.....I use Plexus to condition the plastics and paintwork which tends to give the colour a deeper quality.
