    sprocket sizes and lube help

    Hiya
Just had a quick count of how many teeth my sprockets have and the result is 13tooth front and 47tooth rear.
I have read that 12t front is standered, so mine has gone up 1 tooth at front for more top speed am i right??
The sprockets are like new so the prev owner must of had them replaced soon before it was layed up in the garage.
Any tips on hwo to maintain them and the chain??
My dad has always used the propper chain lube that is liek tar really (modern bikes only though) and he has never replaced sprockets due to always replacing the chain before it wears the sprockets unevenly....he has been riding since 16 and he is now 53!! lol
Is the trick to keep them lubed up well?

    Cheers

    Dan.

Front Sprocket and Chain should be swapped at the same time, Rear Sprocket can be changed every other chain.

Keep the Sprockets clean, use a Tootbrush and WD-40 to kleen the thooth.

Make sure you get no WD-40 on the chain though.

You can take the chain of and put it in a pan with solvent like diesel to clean them and get the old oil out, and than boil the chains in a pan with chaingrease, the grease than acts like freingoil by getting liquid and pulling into the chain.

Thats only worth doing if you got verry expensive chain though, so for you its just best to clean the chain and use chain lube spray, with PTFE.

I just bought a 12tooth front sprocket mate off ebay for £8 along with steering head bearings and wheel bearings (might need some advise on changing the steering head bearings)

12 tooth is stock, if you still got the stock pipe, or feel 13 didnt give you enough acceleration than thats a good choice.
Note that in the Netherlands the RS50's that came with the PHBN carb got a 11 tooth sprocket instead of 12 as stock, i am not sure if thats the same in the UK though.

Its got the arrow street system with titanium brushed effect can.....ofc i havnt riden it yet, but dad has and he thinks the 13t is too high, doesnt like 6th much lol
Not sure wether the stock exhaust would be better for road use in the real world though, powerband it at 6 till 9 instead of 8 till 10 (arrow) isnt it??
Once im able to ride it i would like to experiment with exhausts and gearing to see what works best in the real world. Want to buy another rs50 soon, maybe when im 16 ill get another one to restore and tune for track? This current rs50 is getting more or less complete now, looks stunning
