Probably a straight fight between Bautista and Bradl for the vacant seat at Repsol Honda. I'd love to see it go to Crutchlow but doubt that will happen.

Sad to see Stoner retire so young but I can admire his priorities. A final title would be a fitting end to a short but stellar career.

Like him or hate him (I'm not sure any fan "loves" him) the guy has accomplished a lot in just a few short years in the pinnacle of the sport. So I say good for him to have the guts to hang it up before a debilitating injury of before his skills decline. In some ways the path he has chosen might be harder than many think. He is leaving millions on the table and would probably be higher up the record books had he rode another 4-5 years.

The easy thing is to ride for money or to chase records. Retiring on top may be one of the most difficult things a person can do.

Just as with everything else in his life, he walks to the beat of his own drum. Some on here have found that impossible to deal with. Some on here even find a way to hate him on him for making the decision to go, despite not liking him being around in the first place. He could be on a street corner handing at 100 dollar notes and some would find a way to be negative about it.

I'm hugely disappointed to see him go, but if it is what he and his family want, good on him. I respect a guy who can say, "enough", and walk away from how many tens of millions of dollars of future earnings. I'm glad that my memories of him will not include watching him running around with the back markers as his career comes to an end in several years time, taking millions of dollars on the back of former glory, but delivering nothing.

As to his ride. Who will end up with that is an interesting question, but based on recent comments by HRC President, it sure as hell will not be VR.

He is thinking wrong if Rossi never wins again until his retirement he will still be the GOAT. One thing can be said he is one fast ass rider but never a true racer!!!!
Rossi has put in the seat time to earn his accolades, but Stoner is still very much on top on the current GP grid. There are only two people counted to win consistently in GP right now, and he is counted as more consistent than the other guy. I would also say that he is very much a real racer, riding with injury and making long term adjustments to his riding style as a form of pain and symptom management strategy. If not for the ARM pump issue that plagues him there likely wouldn't be a force to touch him on the grid. It is almost reminiscent of sole of the great technical disparities that led to certain manufacturers' dominationx except this is a rare moment when one person is just that far ahead. That kind of talent is always missed.

Bit sad he puts then boot into the scene in his announcement clearly he's not happy, maybe we'll see him in superbikes? WSBK seems alot more enjoyable.

Time will tell, but I doubt that very, very much.

Gutted ! Just herd it on the news.

I have to say I agree with Nonno. He is very much his own man.

I have said it a few times on this forum that watching him ride is pure racing magic.

The boys in there v8 tin tops better watch out !! I`m sure he could make a postie bike look good on a track.

What does he have left to prove? Nothing, he came, he rode, he kicked their ass. He isn't all crippled up and hobbling. He's the fastest cat on two wheels, got a brolly girl for a missus, a nice little baby, and Millions in the bank. If I were him, I'd be flying the FYYFF banner to everyone from here on out! Good on you Casey Stoner.
The legend will only grow with the passing years.

Without Sic, only seams Marquez and Iononne are the next big stars
I agree. I applaud Casey for leaving on a peak, not a low. Marquez and Iannone look like the next Lions to step up to GP.
