Are the oz wheels painted? I thought Aprilia listed them as anodised. I could be wrong but a mate has a 04 factory with the blue Evo forged rims and even the feel of them feels like blasted alloy. I only say that cause the lack of paint would surely contribute to the light weight.

I think the purple ones are anodised. The white'uns are painted.

As for powder coating chipping, I'd change my coater, I've had a few sets done by Triple S in Bingley and the finish and durability have been excellent.

The paint or anodise debate is ongoing. I reckon the blue ones are painted with lovely paint meself. The blue changed over the years. I have had 3 different shades from various model years through my hands. The 05 T factory ones are definately on the purple side. I don't get Aprilia and their paint schemes. They're on drugs. It's a real bummer if you buy a bike made on a day when they were taking the bad drugs.

I only come here for the craic anyway.

Yeah mate. On bad days I fall off roller coasters and end up stuffing tree blossom down the silencers in garage forecourts.

Well at any rate, whoever does the anodising for aftermarket parts seems to do it well. Like I said my little mirror , levers and other bits seem to stand up to constant digs from stones being thrown up, might be a different story if a tyre fitter gouged your rim while putting a tyre on but paint wouldn't really help there either. I had one of those little nitro rc cars and everything was anodised. Stood up well to normal use but serious impacts marked the finish

If you want durability then try superfinishing, but get your wallet out. Superfinished engine internals do not need to be run in. The motor can be thrashed from day 1.

Fwiw, I got 2 sets of older blue OZ wheels ('01-'02) and both are painted.

superfinishing sounds like the kind of thing you would do when blueprinting a motor, everything everywhere 100% perfect.

It is.. Basically they put the components into a bath of some special chemicals, shake 'em around, and it grinds all the tiny lumps off. You use it on gearbox internals, camshafts, etc. Means very little resistance where they meet, F1 teams use it, but you can get it done..

You certainly wouldn't be putting wheels in it, even if you could afford to, it would be completely pointless..

Guess no-one knows how the cush rubbers are removed then??

Cush rubbers are easy. WD40, metal shaft + wiggling. When refitting use contact cleaner, just like on bar grips.

Dont tell everyone that superfinishing is pointless on wheels, im trying to catch a big fish here. I had a little bite there.

Superfinishing makes engines last longer, which is extremely useful when developing highly tuned applications, such as drag racing or top tier circuit racing. It is expensive though. I think Mladin was penalised for doing it in AMA, but that is just heresay.

who'd you have a little bite from? if i was gonna polish my wheels i'd do it by hand anyway, while wanking, much more fun.

in my mind i have the craziest most expensive, everything done to it 200bhp v twin but in reality its just slightly better than average.. ha

i heard they go faster when you take the giggling pin out if the laughing shaft
