can't reset partial odometer to zero

    Hi everyone.

My Pegaso is 12 years now, but still working great, no big issues at all.
My biggest trouble was with the rectifier, but since I upgraded it to a FET-one, as said here http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/s...ier-Mosfet-Mod the problem is gone, one year after changing it.

So, I have a minor problem now, and maybe someone can help
My partial odometer is stuck, I can't reset it.
The last times I tried it, it was hard to use, I really need to push it harder so that it moves.
Everything else in the panel works fine, only problem is changing the partial to 0.
    But yesterday, no way...

Do you have any ideas? Some WD40 maybe?

    thanks

    Hi mate,

I had the same problem, it was impossible to reset it, it is not problem in cable, but inside house of odometer.
It was needed to remove it from plate, open the front odometer cover with flat screwdriver, and WD spreay the plastic odometer wheels with numbers and its axle inside the housing.
After that, force to turn of the odometer button many times to reset the odometer few times so WD liqiud can good go inside every spore around wheels axle and between wheel,
then it is work like a charm.
Put the cover back, and carefuly, with some platic, push hard the aluminium edges of cover to close it around the housing.
Hope that my english is helped

Well, I'd say this is exactly my problem as well.
Let me ask you something, should I unscrew all those screws marked on the photo?

If you look under the display you will see that it rests on three rubber mounted posts.
Remove all three nuts and washers and display goues out straight up.
B4 that you need to disconnect speed and RPM cables.
(be super carefull whaen screwing back on the cables)
I haven't removed further, but I suppose all electricals need to be disconnected as well.

    hmarques,

I am very, very sorry for delay, I didn't look for email notification about your last questiuon,

I hope that you have solved the problem, and, as stisma said, that's all you needed to do with showed screws,
it holds the complete table on the body of bike.
Just remove showed screws, remove all cables, don't worry, nothing bed will happend, and do the things I mentioned in my reply to you.

I had to fix my speedometer too. I have couple of warnings.

    • Do not lubricate reseting knob too much. Cable may disconnect from the knob.
    • Do not open screws in the bottom before you have opened the front glass. Otherwise mechanism may come out in a force when you pull the glass out.

So, I have managed to make both mistakes. Cable disconnected when I tired to lubricated system when it was still attached to bike. I put cable back and tired to tighten it to then knob by pressing pipe with tongs. I was so hard that it cracked. I finally just glued it in place with epoxy and duct tape. This has worked so far, since when lubricated, reseting don't need much force.

Second mistake caused break of the needle. I fixed it by welding it by soldering iron and adding thin layer of epoxy over joint. Works, but not too pretty.

Anyway, I found out that "helpful" service had caused major damage few years ago. The bulb in the speedometer was dim and serviceman had changed it. Nice, except one detail: Replacement bulb was 20w halogen I didn't notice it immediately, since I rarely ride at dark. It was there about 1000 km and had caused major damage. Lots of plastic that makes up structure of the mechanism was melted. It had probably evaporated whatever grease there had been and thus contributed to reseting problem.

So, I think I may buy a new speedometer. Does anybody know if it will come with new reseting cable and knob? I didn't find any way to remove cable from the instrument. Bike is Pegaso Cube.
