The tach needle is just pressed onto a metal shaft. Take your clocks apart and reset it to zero. Make sure it is properly pushed onto the the shaft, because they are known to slip sometimes when not properly installed. That is what has probably happened to yours.

I'm gonna have to research the issue. Sorry for the bad info guys! Never would have thought my tach was off. I shouldve know better with those numbers!
Wow, I never imagined the tach being off that much. It would be bad if someone were to consistently take it to redline according to an erroneous tach and find out he surpassed the max rpm by a couple hundred......every time. I am going to check my tach soon.

The rev limiter will still function no matter what the tach says.

Mille engine vibration 6000rpm and above.

That explains why my rev limiter hits a little early too... Total shocker to me. Glad we got on the subject!

Said you replaced the chain...is it set correctly. Slack and alignment?
I had set the chain too tight on my falco ( with a rsv swinger) and was getting a heavy vibe mid rpms. I actually was able to see the chain where it passes through the swing arm vibrate from side to side right around 6k rpm . Slacked it off and gone.
25mm of free play on the side stand is what you want.

Just wondering is it actually a vibration or is the engine surging? Recently I took Kz's advice and started wearing ear plugs and found it incredibly easy now to play in the 5,500-9,500 rpm Range. Anyways.... A CHP riding on my ass two days ago had me holding a steady 6,500 rpm for a couple miles (Ok,... so I was taunting him ) I noticed a faint steady engine surge. I had mistaken it for vibration before.?

Hi guys. Sorry for not posting any replies recently (working away, and missing my 'prila).
I balanced the TBs and is better but the vib is still there. The chain tension is around 25mm on the side stand. I will check the rear whel alignment coz the adjuster markers ain't he most accurate.
I did have the bike dyno'd and gave a respectable 117bhp and 70lbs torque.
Many thanks for all the ideas, there's some on here that I will still try out to smoth it all out.

I just realized today that I was reading my engine RPM's wrong. On the Tach, the lowest reading is 1000 rpm. so just past the hash marks actually reads about 1600 rpm's, not 600. Is that correct?

    That is correct.
The shot below shows my bike idling at around 1,450 RPM
