    More electrical investigations

Jean was out on her Peg on Sunday, commuting to a training course, and it stood in heavy rain for over 5 hours.

When she tried to start it the engine turned a couple of times and then the ignition would stop and the clocks would go blank.

If she turned the ignition off then on, it went through the checks again, allowed the the engine to turn twice and the above would repeat.

Once it was recovered back to our house, as the clocks were now suspect I changed them for the Strada one I have as a spare. And it started after about 4 turns, clock display was fine.

I switched the clocks back to the correct ones and the bike fired 1st time.

    So, not the clocks.

I assume water has caused an issue, but I want clues to where best to look and clean (again) electrical joints and make sure I put Vaseline on them.

Around the ignition barrel ? Coil ???

Check the connector in the belly pan that comes from the reg-rectifier. I cut the connector out and have never had an electrical problem (other than the solderring of the wiring into the main switch). Last night I rode through half an hour of cold rain. No problems.

Ah, good one. I have it wrapped it plastic (have even forded rivers in Bolivia with it like that :-) ). I'll have a look at that, and see about replacing the connector.
