    Piaggio X10

    http://www.cycleworld.com/2012/04/27...10-gt-scooter/

A big[ger] bike with the 330 engine. Lots of good things to say about it. Seems all the scooter manufactures are going after this "kind-of-a-2-wheel-car" scooter for the European market. I'd guess the second car over there is turning into a large scooter? High gas prices maybe a forcing function + more traffic on congested roads... A sign for the US?

    Jerry,

Add the Cargo Bike now available based on the Aprilia Sport City 300 to the second car offerings. I mentioned it to the local Aprilia dealer and who knows they may bring one in for a look see.

A 300 cc scooter makes sense for most commuting and is easier to maneuver in the city. The smaller scooter will be more competitively priced than a 500 cc model. The 500 cc models are better suited for a market with a lot of open country to tour but even then are a little light for cross country travel. I guess that is why Aprilia Europe lists the 300 cc models then jumps to 850 cc.

OOOOO - maybe they'll finally bring back an updated S500 GT. Including the panniers. I use mine for grocery shopping. I always get questions as people watch me load up in amazement.

I use my Sport City for incidental grocery shopping (rarely drive my van anymore except to pick up lumber and other really large items) and some people are amazed at what one can safely carry on a decently equipped Second Car (scooter).

My daughter was just giving me death stares for lamenting that with gas at $4.00+ a gallon that some weeks I am spending a whole $10.00 on gas. Her economical 4 cyl Jeep Compass with the CVT drive is costing her over $50 a week for a similar daily commute.

I was at Home Depot a while back and lost track of what I was getting as all the "while your there pick up X" calls came in. I left with a 1.5 hp well pump, straight shaft weed wacker, a gallon of paint, gallon of primer, small bag of potting soil, assorted hardware and a few electrical boxes. Good thing I had some bungee cords to strap the pump & weed wacker over the seat to the grab handles but it all fit just fine and saved me the cost of bringing the van.

Some question if it is worth while to buy a scooter as a second car. I just checked my riding/gas/maintenance log and I have saved close to $3,000 dollars on gasoline alone the past 12 months and an additional $4,000 on maintenance, wear and tear on my van so close to $7,000 in annual savings is well worth it to me here in Florida wher we can ride 12 months a year.

    Rockynv,

You may save enough to get one of those cargo bikes...

I think they are kind of cool. The [F150] pickup of scooters.

They do have a certain appeal and I would like to see one in person. Based on the 300 or 350 I feel they are pretty close to the ideal commuter and possibly light touring bike. The promotional video showing a couple arriving at a hotel and taking out all their weekend luggage from the cargo hold with no external luggage hanging off the bike looks impressive.

I think it would make a G8 bike for the cannon ball rally in 2014. You can keep everything enclosed. Not sure about the footing over extended periods. At least they are like a traditional motorcycle layout, might be okay if you are not too tall (over 6' perhaps).

On the luggage, I think the role cart is dinky. I bet if you had some custom soft luggage, you could back plenty in there; plenty of room for 1 person.

In some ways, the bike might look a bit more like a traditional motorcycle. I noticed there is a small hump like a gas tank. And, the passenger footpegs are up like a sportbike.

Let me know if you find more pics. Do you know what it runs?

I wonder if you can order the body parts to retrofit the SC?????? Would you do it if the parts cost no more than $750?

I think you could fit a few people of diminuative stature in there for when you go to a drive-in movie but...

No clue as to the cost but there is a contact link on their site and they claim the bike is delivered via Aprilias network of dealerships.

If it could be retrofitted to any Sport City without cutting or welding so that it could be restored back to factory configuration and was available as a kit for a reasonable price, yes I would be interested.

I wouldn't mind trying the 500 model. With a 492 cc engine, it should have some pep. But it would have to be alot better for me to give up my X9.

LOL, that happens to me too when I go to Costco with over $150 in groceries and put it all in the Beo. Faces all over are priceless.
