Aprilia RS 125 Project 2000 Plate

    Hello

welcome to my RS 125 project. I got this a couple of days ago now and still haven't had a chance to get the engine out and start rebuilding but really wanted to start this forum up, i'm not planning on modding this to 33bhp unless it is already at it.. I really want to get this back up and running by September because i want to use this to get back and fore to college as i have got bored of my little RS 50. I haven't got an unlimited supply of cash because I am still in college, but I am willing to pay for jobs which I am not confident to take on myself, such as the panel paintwork which my dad has a few people he has met over the years that could help out and also powder coating the wheels and the sub-frame.

I've seen a lot of project forums for the Aprilia RS 50 but not so many for the RS 125's so i still hope there are a lot of knowledgeable people available for some advise giving as this is my first project bike and my dad has only ever repaired old cars so this is new for both of us.

The bike is a 2000 model on a W plate and needs a lot to start going, when i picked the bike up the bloke said that he would recommend a full rebuild so that is what we are going to be doing. The bike needs the number plate applying for because the bike has been taken off the road so quite some time and was being used as a drag bike so the bike looks very ugly.

I've got some slight damage to the frame and the swing arm, what should i do about this and how would i go about filling it in?

Got some stupid front handle bars on here so these will be going and be replaced by the original ones.

Everything inside is a mess and I am going to tidy this all up over the week so this should be fun.

When i bought the bike i had a brand new piston and barrel with it still in the box which i was really pleased about. Can't wait now to get it all out and start getting stuck in

Just had a quick look at the RS125 cause I finished college a it early, so I've taken that drag seat off and had a look at the carb and it had a siv on the end of it? Anyway the carb is a Dellorota VHSB 34mm. Anyone had any experiences with this carb and should I keep it or look for a smaller one like a 28 or 30mm?

The 34mm is a good carb keep it the one on your bike seems to have been extended away from the manifold can't see exactly here is a pick of mine .I am still running the standard air box and a 160 main jet.

Ok will do, yeah it looks like its been extended in the picture but its actually not connected up so its just placed out of the way. will the standard airbox fit onto it? I forgot to ask the bloke was there one there when i picked this up grr. i got a lot of work to do on this bike so i am just going to take my time haha, i'm waiting on getting for the swingarm socket tool which i ordered a couple of days ago to come through so i can take the engine out and get started. Could you link me to your inlet manifold cause i haven't got one of those either

All is good pjme.co.uk i have not found many that can beat there prices, having said that some items come out of wales cheaper with postage to here, just got to search I got an air box with head and cover tucked inside sent cheaper, the 28mm carb has a enlarged spacer on it the original RS had a bigger carb so they kept the same rubber boot and added the spacer.

How hard would it be to use the RS125 >06 speedo on the older shape RS? Has it been done or is it impossible?

Hello everyone, Sorry for not updating this thread for a couple of weeks. I've been working hard at assignment as its coming to the end of my first your now and its all become a bit hectic haha. Anyway today I had a day off from college because of all the teacher strikes and shit so i thought that I would go and sit down the garage and tap the holes in the swing arm to put some paddock stand bobbins in as the universal stand i used is terrible!

So i done both sides of the swing arm and sat there looking at the bike for about a minute thinking what I could so next. So as i was looking around i remembered that gash in the side of my swing arm so I put some instant weld on it to try and fill it, apparently it takes 24 hours to cure but i think i will leave it a bit longer just to make sure it hardens right!

After doing this i started to go around the bike taking off most the dirt to just get something done. As i started to clean my right foot peg I looked at the engine and seen how dirty and grimmy it was. I was going to wait and not take out the engine until i had my desk build but i couldn't resit myself haha.

So I ran back up the house and picked up my swing arm nut removal tool to have a crack at taking the engine out. The nut came off easier than i thought, the bloke i bought it off must of not tightened it up properly. The process of taking the engine out was easier than i expected, but then again i didn't have a lot to take off and there was no real connections on my engine other than the temp sensor.

The bottom rear engine bolt holding the engine to the frame wasn't even done up, I undone it with my hands which make it seem like the person I bought this off just slammed the bike together to look half together!

Now that the rear was basically free , I placed my jack underneath just in case it decided to fall while I was trying to get the front mount off.

As I now had the mount off the engine came out nice and simple and only a few taps from the mallet was needed.

Now that the engines out you can see how dirty it actually is and you can see the previous owner pathetic attempt of spraying it a goldy color! while it was out I quickly put all the mount back together so i didn't forget where they all went!

Now that the engines out I am waiting on a desk being built by a friend of my dads and then i can begin rebuilding and then sorting out the electrics ect.

While i was down the garage i spotted in my pile of parts given to me i had these two rear number plate holder but one was missing the light and the other missing the indicators, thought might as well put these together to make one as i was down there.

Finally got to start the top end today, its been about 2-3 weeks since I last posted on here and I haven't done anything to do with the bike since then but I have got all my assignments done so that means i can crack on with this project!!
the engine looks tatty but as long as it runs its ok for me, I am going to get all the dirt off but i aint going to respray the whole engine.

Piston was scrap so out with the old and in with the new

Looks like blood on the piston and studs but its not haha, it was grease I put on it.
Barrel was fine so i didn't put the Mitaka one on atm, hopefully I wont have to change due to messing this top end up but its always there as a spare now. The engine is still pretty dirty but cause I haven't got a air compressor yet its a bastard to get it all off, looks a lot better than it did when i first got it out aha.
Also I got my 34mm race inlet manifold through the post so i thought i was just plug the carb in to look like im getting close to having it done haha. Oil pump was just put on to looks pretty, I got to set that up

Next thing to order will be a battery, chain and sprocket set and a set of ignition and locks so i can try and get it to turn over.
