You are SO lucky... usually the entire contents of the reservoir turns black, yours politely congealed into a nice black booger.

Other than that, we hopes that you sucked it dry and bled completely with proper flesh fluid... a mixture of old 'stop juice' or incompatible fluids can get things congealing.

I didn't suck it dry but just covered the hole but re-filled revesouir thrice with nice new Dot 4.

I will keep an eye on it.

I have since found out it is old fluid and moisture growing into a biofilm (living thing!!)...

better do that... it could creep out and get you at night.

Best to do a bleed, mate - whatever is below the res is still festering.

Remind me again, someone, about the way, if any, to stop the contamination of the clutch fluid. And BTW, couldn't the clutch fluid also be polluting the oil ? HMMM.

Fuggif I know... a regular removal/cleaning of the slave, with an application of (what I used) SCUBA food-grade (?) silicone paste to lube the seals slowed it down... that was after replacing the original with a perfectly good, used warrantied take-off, as mine was leaking.
And a good bleed, of course. It's been said here many times that dark clutch fluid is pretty normal (?) and really doesn't hurt anything... regular maintenance / bleeding when it starts to bother you will do it.

Or hell, just get some of those fuzzy, branded 'sock' covers for the reservoir and fuggedaboudit

And no, it's a closed system. Brake fluid in the clutch circuit and the crankcase oil are not conjoined... that'd be a mess! "Hey, I over filled my crankcase and it's overflowing the clutch reservoir!!"
