    Cool Greetings again...

    Hey folks!

Sorry for my early "test post" but i posted several times now for a few days & none of my posts show up on any thread i replied to. My name is Peter, im 28, from Cluj-Napoca, Romania, E-Europe. I recently bought my first mille (not my first v-twin, i owned a Ducati Monster 900S i.e. before) and straight away had only two words: love it! It's justpure adrenaline attached to a licensplate.. So basicly it's an ME in blue/red/silver, has 30K km., with no previous modifications, in a pretty good conditon overall. I was just curious to hear from you guys wich mods do you necessarily recommend?!
Problems that i experienced sofar are:
    - front brake at low speeds pulsates
    - rear brake fails & recovers from itself (pedal is going soft & then returns after a few km)
    - changed the starter clutch when i bought it
Any advice besides the usual "welcome! now gtfo!" would be welcome!

    Cheers!

    P.s. here are some pics':

You just need to post a few more... then you will get it to work. That's because the forum doesn't want to be deluged with posts from new members. Or something.

    So finally: Hy folks!

My name is Peter, i'm 28, from Cluj-Napoca, Romania. I bought my ME tricolor Mille last autumn & since then i'm also reading this forum. It's not my first big V-Twin, i also owned a Ducati Monster 900S i.e., with all the ohlins & carbon goodies, so i already decided back then that my next bike will be an Italian V-Twin So far i'm loving it but i also came across some annoying problems some of wich i fixed, but to others i will need your help with:

    - Slow speed braking is a pain in the ass (it pulsates & limps) [guess because the floating discs poroblem]
    - My rear brake sometimes fades & then comes back alive (pedal is going soft, then hard again) [reckon it's the rear cylinder/brake pump]
    - My steering damper is dead i think (the handlebar mooves as it pleases, without any effort from the damper) [what to do? can i change the oil to revive it?]
    - My starter bendix was dead as i bought it, so i changed that (i read that Mille's do tend to kill them when not propperly taken care of)

I stripped her for a propper cleaning & checkup, and also a paintjob (i think i'll make it white).. so i would ask you guys: is there any "must do" mod i can perform while she's apart ? What i thought of solong is: headlight hi/lo beam mod, iridium sparks, k&n air filter, rerouting the accelerator cables, led taillight, seatcowl.
Any advice would be welcome! Have yourselfs a nice monday,

    Peter

    1. pulsing brakes, convert your discs to full floaters.

    2. rear brake- try bleeding it properly, there is a full discussion about how to do it right.

    3. buy an ohlins steering damper, its adjustable, and can be rebuilt as it starts to go off. the red sachs one cant as far as i know. ebay usually throws up a few cheap ones.

    4. why bother buying a tri colour if you are planning to paint it a different colour? tri colours were sort of limited to that year i think, ask danv990!

1 - Inspect the brown and white connectors for the alternator wires
2 - Add a manual switch parallel to the thermal fan switch
3 - Move the connector for the sidestand switch down so you can reach it when the switch goes bad.
4 - Check the fuel and vacuum hoses for condition and tightness.
5 - Check the hoses inside the tank from the fuel pump to the filler neck.

Tricolors were only made in 1998 and 1999. The ones sold in the US were sold as 2000 model year bikes but they were made in 1999.

It is your bike so you can obviously paint it any way you choose, but it would be a shame in my opinion to lose another of these early bikes in what has become an iconic color scheme

If you decide to keep your bike in the Tricolor scheme when you repaint it The Image Works in UK has a complete decal set for it a very reasonable prices. They are who I used for my bike.

Here are some shots of my bike after restoration and if you scroll down a few posts later show it in various stages.

    Question?

Wow guys! Thanks for the feedback! I will consider everything you wrote!

planter87 & DanV990: does the rear/front ohlins adjustable susp. from my 00' Ducati Monster 900S i.e. fit on the RSV ? If not, Dan, how much you spent on your full ohlins equip ?

naimchase : what do you mean by "move the connector for the sidestand switch down.."

I know that tricolors are sort of extinct, but i kind of have a fetish for the white color
Before the Ducati (wich was a Dark model) i owned a 750 Katana, wich i also painted over from blue to white

as far as i know, all usd ohlins 43mm forks use the same tube diameters, but the spindle / wheel mount may be different, also the length may be different add to that if you want to run radial calipers and so on. but for the yokes, you'd be best to stick the right year/ ohlins model clamps on. for the correct rake/ offset.

Uhm, it might be a stupid question, but can someone tell me the sheer difference besides the brand-name, between the Mille Ohlins & Sachs susp. ?! Why is it so much better to put on the Ohlins ?

Is it true that Mille 1998-2003 and Futura share the same forks?

Answer: no, but they are interchangeable.

uh..... about a billion reasons... ohlins is a much more tuneable suspension, better quality engineering...

hence why ohlins is the most used suspension in the world....
