Exclamation Replacement Demand Sensor Re-call - RSV4 AND Tuono V4

    Hi all,

Just found this thread on the AF1 RSV4 forum.

    http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/s...Sensor-Re-call

Has anybody been affected or know anything more?

Apparently only a certain range of VIN numbers are affected - any one know the number range?

Had mine changed last year, not had a recall letter.

Demand sensor failure was a common problem last year for many RSV4's and some early production TV4's.

As far as I remember it was a known bad batch from MM, I don't know the chassis range affected but aprilia have known about the faulty sensors for well over seven months, they were aware in October 2011 that mine was in the affected chassis range - I'd presume only bikes from the initial TV4 production batch have been affected.

If what I was told at the time was correct, it was suggested that not all bikes will be affected as there was more than one batch used during initial TV4 production.

The demand sensor is a common part to the Shiver, DD, RSV4, TV4 and DD1200 range.

I assume this is not the TPS???

My dealer told me it was the TPS being replaced under the recall. But that doesn't seem correct

Throttle demand sensor/throttle position sensor, left front of the engine behind the fairing panel.
It's a twin potentiometer that converts twist grip action to digital signals (4) for the ECU.

Diagnostic by navigator on failed units reveals inconsistent or no reading from one of the white or blue tracks, either being enough to trigger the urgent service warning.

As aprilia know which bikes are likely to be affected within a selected chassis range, the failure rate must be high to trigger a recall, I know my dealer has changed a large number fitted to bikes from the first batch.

I don't know however as far as I understand the code DSB08 relates to Oil Pressure.

All other errors pertaining to engine sensors, ride by wire, FI or Ign are stored in the ECU. The only way to display those errors is with the AXONE or Navigator.

Had a recall letter from Aprilia yesterday:

    "Dear Customer,

To ensure efficiency of its products over time, Aprilia... have identified the opportunity to perform an upgrade of the electrical system characteristics of the motorcycle. The measure is totally free and consists of simply replacing the throttle grip position sensor..."

Did the letter mention the VIN# Range? Or is it just 2011 bikes?

No mention of VIN apart from mine specifically and no mention of what year of manufacture, so I guess you just have to wait and see if you get a letter! Maybe dealers have a list of VIN numbers affected?

I'm in the low 800's, I got a recall letter yesterday, which seems a bit barmy as mines already been done, but - hey-ho my dealer will sort out if it needs changing - again.
