    Crankshaft problem :(

My moped was making a funny noise the other day so I took off the transmission cover and went to take off the variator and everything was spinning except from the bit I had the locking tool on, I managed to get the nut off and found a big groove cut out of the crankshaft, now I can't take off variator. I have bodged it back on for now, i could replace it but its expensive. also is it a job that i could do myself at home wth basic tools??
    thanks

Not really, Full engine strip down+ if your putting a new crank in you may as well do a full engine rebuild.

Tools aren't usually the problem when doing a bottom end build. Well, some special tools like a heat gun make life a ton easier, but where people usually get hit is the knowledge part. There is a lot more too it than just taking it apart and putting it back together.
    Depends on your mechanical apptitude.

Crank seal's usually end up going the wrong way round meaning all your hard work is for nothing.

I have Started taking it all apart and I have only just realised that the throttle cable splits into 2 and one goes to the carb and the other goes in near the variator, whats the one near the variator do?

Oil pump, I would not suggest that you try to tackle this project.
