Makes me glad I bought my '11 two weeks ago.. she runs just fine.

That said I didn't read all the way through the thread but the '11 ZX10R had a full stop recall as well for a valvetrain issue.. and I betcha' didn't remember/know about that one. It'll go back to sales as usual, the dollar bill to quote Lil' Wayne.. cant stop wont stop.

BMW finally determined there is a problem with rod bolt torque. Suspect engines will need to be torn down by the local dealers. Apparently they will not replace engines like Aprilia did with the RSV4 connecting rod problem.

If you have a BMW s1000rr that has already experienced a failure of the rotating assembly they will replace either the motor or bike. Back in the dark ages when I worked for BMW I was always very impressed with their strive and desire to keep customers loyal to their brand, at least on the bike side of things. Simple shit like the VOR Program (vehicle off road) were awesome. Almost anywhere on earth you could get some random ass VOR part in a day or two. We were allotted five VOR orders per day and if not in stock in the USA you literally got it straight from the DHL or Luftansa delivery folks direct from Germany. I spent months working a customer though the Darien Gap between Central and South America. His parts were often delivered by mule, no shit. I managed to work with BMW to get himallthe way from Austin Texas to Tierra del Fuego and back over a year. With no VOR system this would not have been possible.

Now on the car side of he business, well much like Aprilia, I am not friendly with my local dealers really and have had only one good experience. I deal mainly with Pelican Parts and a few enthusiasts forums for advise and bits of metal or plastic for my two German Munchen-Mobiles.

To me this problem looks pretty bad for BMW who claims outright Teutonic superiority when it ccomes to manufacturing control. This is either an unhappy crank builder (like the Rotax sabatoge of motors in the early to mod 1990's) or an epic failure of of their genetically pure QC department. Remember it happened to Aprilia too and a LOT of people who were going to buy an rsv4 ended up buying an s1000rr. The only constant is change.

Micah, I remember the BMW forums being rather disparaging about Aprilia when that recall was announced. I wonder how some of the folks who went on about the brand and specifically bought a BMW instead are feeling right now.

Maybe BM have done a cost evaluation all ready and the solution is an economical one.
I used to be indecisive but now I'm not so sure?.

Ask BMW about the motors they had to replace under warranty/recall on the first year E46 M3.

    It's BMW.. act surprised.

When it's your idea, its crap.. but when they "come up with the process, designed and required to implement their new ideas," (as nothing is ever simple, or no credit ever given to you coming up with the idea first) it's golden.. same ol' same. Meanwhile, they build a hell of a bike.. the thing is brutal fast.
