Hi Davidwa!
There has been another person doing work on the forks on a US Pegaso cube; the link is here> http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/s...light=fork+oil

Hmmm - doing a fork oil change myself. I drained out 375ml of foul smelling oil from each side.
Was thinking of using 0w20 Mobil 1 syn. in forks - used it before in Caponord and BMW K1100 forks.
Any one else use anything besides "fork oil" in their forks?
I found both mine and my brother's Pegasos to be low on fork oil when I drained them. His was around 410ml, mine 430ml. Granted, some oil is difficult to account for as it clings to the fork spring but that wouldn't account for more than 10-20ml. If you are light in weight, running lower fork oil will soften the front end by making the spring rate more constant. Conversely, more oil will be better suited to heavier loads as it will stiffen at a greater rate near the end of the travel.
Although the Pegaso service manual only specifies 5W, 20W or any combination of the two, I found thru experimentation that the stock fork oil is approximately straight 5W. Depending on your weight and type of riding, I would use a 5w or 10w motor oil if you cannot get fork oil readily. Since the fork oil never gets up to temperatures, the viscosity will effectively maintain in the cold or "W"inter range. As such, the 0W20 will act more like a 0W fork oil and thus give even less damping than stock.

Hi guys - thanks for all your messages.
I've put 375cc of 10w in and it's comfy but probably too soft.
I'm going to make it up to 400cc and see how much difference it makes.
Will let you know.
All the best,
David
I suggest bumping up the oil quantity to 430-450ml as per the service maual. Should firm up the forks, especially deeper into the travel.

Try 15W or 20W synthetic fork oil:
