    fan motor broken ....

    Hi all.
Has been a bit unlucky this spring, plastic Y piece to the cooling system is broken, swap the new one. $ 9.08 + 4 clips
But when I warm the engine up, I found out that fanmotor to the radiator did not work, I checked the fan motor, but it is broken. : (

Can it be right that I give $ 190 for the new fan motor: VA37-A101-46A:? AF1 http://www.af1racing.com/store/Scrip...dCategory=1337
and only from the U.S.? It's nothing but plastic and then a small electric motor ....

My fan went too, mines a early model DD and had a Piaggio Made in India one ( cheap ), bought a second hand one off ebay USA for $50 and was a Spal brand one made in italy. like lemann said, make sure you get the spal brand, they are very good.

I see that AF1 Racing is $190.00 but was looking around the Internet by typing the part # AP8124930 only and found many in the low $170.00 range. But still at even $170.00. I guess we have to pay to play. Look around you could find a better price if you spend a little time at it.

Thats about right for new, I bought a Spal thermo fan for my car i think 16in and that was around 260us, unless you take a chance and buy one from a wrecked bike, just make sure is a spal branded one.

Had my fan go out a couple weeks ago, just after this post. I had a trip planed for this past weekend, so I tore it apart to find that the cheep India made unit had plastic holding the brushes in place. This in turn melted and wasn't letting the brushes move. I ground down the old melted plastic and rigged it together so it would last until the end of my trip. Well, the last day of my trip it decided to crap out for good, luckily most of the riding was a sustained pace so I had little issue with over heating.

Today I was doing a search for a replacement fan, as I did not want to put a cheep India made fan back on it (not to mention the above stated $190 price tag)

As mentioned above I came across the Spal brand and was able to find a direct replacement for almost 1/4 the price of the crappy OE fan ($59.99+shipping).

Spal part number 30103011, 5.2" puller fan.

My OEM fan (made in India) gave up too. After storing the bike for the winter the fan just never worked again.

My local dealer (Pacific Motosports in Richmond, BC) replaced it under warranty and they put the Spal one on. Thanks Rusty!

What temperature is the fan supposed to come on. I've never really noticed mine come off and on. I bought mine used. It's a 2008 Shiver with 3400 miles.

On the DD the fan kicks on with the 4th bar of temp gauge. We don't get fancy numbers on our dashes, cause we're real men.

According to the factory manual the fan should kick on at approx. 102 C. My "Made in India" fan crapped out last week as well. Before shelling out for a new one I decided to open it up and take a look. Turns out one of the fan brushes was frozen and not making contact. Jabbing it with a toothpick freed it up, and once back together the fan works fine. Of course, I don't know why it froze up in the first place or if it's likely to happen again. Might be related to being caught in the rain for 2 hrs a couple of weeks ago...

My "made in India" fan broke, too, on my '09. I briefly fixed it by unsticking a fan brush, but it shit the bed again shortly after, and I didn't want to screw around with it anymore. I still had 1 year warranty, and I did notice the new fan installed by the dealer was made in Italy.

If I had been out of warranty, I would have purchased an aftermarket fan I found online for about $70. It would have come with alloy fan blades, too.

My fan came on for the first time since I have had the bike (2 years.) Sitting in traffic on a 90 degree day. I am glad it works.

    Dorsoduro 750 cooling fan

Hi, were you able to just swap the Spal fan in that you've ordered? Did you have to make any changes on your bike or in your new fan?
My "India made" fan quit and just order de 5.2" pulling fan from Spal.
Thank you for your really helpful inputs
Loving my DD, beyond the few electrical problems.
