    Cheapest Opened Air Box Modification

    hello

on 1st generation of v60 engine, lots of owner modify the air box. here is the cheapest solutions.
the goal is to touch the tank, to have NO unfiltred air arriving

the volume of the air box become bigger, we have a better response of the engine.
the ratio air/petrol have to be set after this modification

    Very simple, looks nice!

I suppose you used heating pipe insulator (like I do!)

I first wanted to go this way, but found out that some debris and dust still found it's way in there....

Cheap & cheerful, but still a little risky, imo....

Better have the filter above the TB stacks for real peace of mind, as in the MWR filter plate (which isn't a cheap solution anymore... )

no risk at all, 70% of the french forum rider are with this configuration... no problem.
the seal have to be big to be sure it's "airproof" ( like waterproof ) i don't know the word in english....

the modification is because the original air box is too small.
so now the air box is your tank, the volume is bigger and the sound is great too !!

the seal is a material to protect water tubes from winter... diameter 10-12 added with big plates on screws

do not forget to take out ( not sure of that word too ) the protection under the tank.....

The word you ant first is actually two words "air tight". I means no air may pass te seal.

The seal material is "pipe insulation".

How often do the French riders change the insualtion material to make sure it stays air tight?

    Hello

2 weeks ago, i have made this mod on my bike....and I'm so happy.
I should have done this from the purchase of my falco ... in lower and mid RPM, the engine is really change! more reactive !!

now, I just need to control the TPS sensor, bypass, CO....

I love the sound even with original exhaust !! for less than 2€, this is the cheapest mod on my bike !!

That is great thanks I might try it but I was thinking of making a adaptor to fit over the TB's and installing one K&N filter to cover both TB's or 2 tapered K&N filters like I do on Carbs.

    Thanks Chris

Glad this popped to the top, I just found my DT1 filter has ripped where the stand off spring pushes against it. I was always concerned about this possibility and think it's a weak part of the design, but it lasted for over 5 years IIRC, so not too bad.

Is the seal at the front of the tank effective?

    You're right.
On the front of the airbox, another short seal should be added to make the tank fit correctly on the airbox.
maybe a little piece of seal on the rear of the box too.

    those pictures are not mine.

I ride a Falco. I tested mine under the rain, and my box was dry, so in my opinion my seal is ok.

Cool, cheers Lebrisw, another job lined up for a rainy day (looks like I'll be waiting for a few months then)

I still need to do this. maybe i should do it while the bike is still in bits. Any ideas where we can get some mini air filters to go over the throttle body intakes?

Using this method you can just use the O/E air filter provided you can keep held tight to the base plate

But if we have the original air filter in its normal place and another smaller filter over the throttle bodies, this will surely help against any stray particles which might make their way into the airbox.
