Here are a few pictures of my latest build. This is my forth build. Two Yamaha YZ85'S, one Honda CR85 and my Kawasaki KX85. My buddies and I are racing these bikes this season with M1GP. These bikes are so much fun.![]()

Gorgeous, just gorgeous. I've got a couple stock RS50s myself as well as a CR85, and I grin just thinking of the hybrid. Must go like stink! Where do you track them?
Beautiful work. My kind of project bike really. Nice to see you sporting the AF1 sticker too! Love more detailed pics as it gets finished. I assume a larger radiator than stock for either the CR or RS is being used? Vibration an issue?

Thanks for the feed back. All of the bike are using the stock rs radiator. My bike is the only one with temp and exhaust gauge. My bike runs between 130 - 160f at 60 to 100f ambient temp. Vibration has not been an issue other than loose of missing fasteners. It helps to fill the handle bars with silicone.![]()
Love it! So easy to make good power with those. Squish at .7-.8mm, phat heads 5.5-7cc head with 6-7mm squish width, 3mm stroker crank and 2mm oversize piston. Mine cranked 27bhp on my dyno using a modified Malossi MHR chamber. It was aawesome!

On a CR85? I am thinking of using a CR85 to replace my KX85. The YZ85 has a very strong top end with a big hit. I really like the power delivery of the KX85, but I just need more of it. The KX85 or the RM85 would be great for a street conversion. I talked to Eric Gorr at Forward Motion and he said that I would be better off with a CR or YZ. I have also heard that the KTM SXS85 engine is pretty nice too.
how hard was the engine swap ? i have a honda cr80 and when i'm 17 will be thinking of maybe doing a engine swap
That depends on the person and the tools that you have. I am a Heavy Equipment mechanic, so this stuff is easy to me. Good luck to you. I would be happy to answer any questions if you decide to do a build.
Say, Garrett: ever consider putting together a basic tutorial on these swaps? You've obviously got the knowledge & experience, ditto enthusiasm, and it looks like you know how to construct a readable sentence. Throw together a half-dozen pages in MSWord, convert to .pdf, and presto. I bet some people would think it was pretty cool. Just a thought.

Going to be a Cafe Racer with a modern twist!
I know the RS50 chassis is not meant for such brutal power. Any recommendations for bracing parts of the RS50 frame/swing arm? I'd like to know what type of shop equipment is necessary for this type of build. Obviously some type of welding equipment is required. Very nice work indeed. I'll be sure to race you guys if I ever get to Cali for an M1GP weekend. You should consider racing WERA minis and get on some real tracks.
Ringa-ding-ding-ding! 2-strokes kick ass!!!
come on garret loads of people hear like the sound of a tutoral, your inspiring people
and if you throw in plenty of pics then we could send a mod a message and make it a sticky in either project section or tech section and you will see more ideas ect thrown about![]()
