    Installing a Garmin

I'm in the process of installing a Garmin, but in terms of hard wiring it in, I'm not sure which way to go about it.

Has anyone done this before? Did you power it via the main fuses under the seat, or the secondary fuses above the water cooler?

I planned on hooking it up to the fuse for the headlight, but that is in with the "secondary" fuses and to keep it clean and ground to the battery, I need to install under the seat. Is it OK to go off one of the main fuses? Have any other ideas on installation?

    Thanks in advance!

Hardwire it directly to the battery, with it's own dedicated fuse.

    That's also what I did.

So since there is a fuse already in-line on the Garmin, can I just connect to the battery and I'll be good to go?

Also, I thought the reason people did not wire straight to the battery was so that the GPS only came on when the key was in the on position. Will I just have to make sure I turn off the Garmin so I don't drain the battery?

Sorry, electical stuff has never been my strong point.

    Here's a link to the Garmin I purchased: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=65210

Yep good to go! Or if you want the GPS to go off with ignition, you can use a small relay powered by the battery, then the ignition input of your DD1200 to turn on the relay. I rewired my head light in this manner using 12ga wire, so the head light can except a higher wattage bulb.

    Great, thanks for the help!

    One last question...

Did you remove the gas tank and run underneath? It looks like I can just run it under the fairing since there's a little groove, but I'm scared of it pinching. What route did you take?

I ran both my radar and gps wires with underneath. I pulled the tank to put in the stage 2 air filter so I did it all at once.
