picking up new 2011 SXV 550

    Hello everyone,

New member here. Been lurking for the past few months and seeing how there's no plans for next year models or replacements- against the advice of others and my own "responsible" judgement- I bit the bullet on a 2011 from Elk Grove Powersports.

I'm planning on picking up restricted so the dealer will take care of registering. Then work on the destriction myself and with the help of the local dealer (Scuderia).

I've heard good things about Elk Grove Powersports- I feel decently safe buying from them.

Any thoughts on buying and riding restricted during break in? Or at least a portion of it?

Any thing I should be sure the dealer triple checks on the bike? I've seen a list (flywheel bolts, etc) but figured I'd ask here too for any heads up.

Appreciate any advice and the wealth of information shared on the boards.

    Cheers!

ha details I would have probably overlooked in excitement. Thanks to both. Good on the reassurance for riding around a while restricted.

And much respect to one of the Aprilia masters. Thank you for everything you do and the information you share Allen. I'm sure I'll have tons of questions for you, Amari and the rest of the board in the near future.

    Looking like saturday...

Unsettles the handling and spoils the fun..if I wanted a passenger I would get a sports tourer not a race bike with a headlight!!

Your better off going to see Mike @ Marin Motoworks for your service and derestriction. Mike probably has the most hands on experience with these bikes of any one in Northern CA. You'll be glad you did!

When I bought mine I derectricted it myself to help get familar with the bike. Then rolled the bike into my truck and hauled it to the dealer for the new map. I was so paranoid about cooking the motor I didn't even start it to load it.

My opinion you will have a better bike if you break it in in derestricted mode.

I DO NOT recommend Scuderia at all. They do not know the sxv's. They had to get a mechanic from another shop to get my bike right ad they screwed my motor up. All this was about 6 months ago so things could be different. But I would urge you to find another shop.

Heard mixed things on Scuderia now. Never heard of Marin Moto, but I'll have to check them out.

My dealer didnt know about the pegs and said they'd look into it...haha

I bought my 08 at Elk Grove Powersports. Never had a bit of problems. Mine also came with rear pegs. Put a few thousand miles on it up in the foothills tearing it up and again never one problem. I would refrain from riding it in town in traffic on warm days though. They are designed to go fast not slow.

apologies for the delay in sharing the love.. A bit distracted and busy with the new girl. Surely you guys can understand

    So far:

-Took delivery Saturday. 8 miles. Sunday first thing- introduced my dremel to the kickstand nub. Good riddance. Odometer this evening read 66. I would guess 70 now.

-I've been pleasantly surprised restricted. I think it'll be more than I even imagined derestricted. That excites me like very few other things can.

-Suspension definitely needs some attention soon. I think a stiffer rear spring is needed. On this weekend's to do list- play with suspension settings.

And a few pics- at the dealership, getting ready for her first night, and at work Monday morning at work.

mine is sitting inside elk grove right now for warranty repair. Elk Grove has GREATLY surpassed all of my expectations, completely blew me away. Elk Grove has just moved into my #1 favorite shop, #2 Scuderia #3 Wilsons. Wilsons has been slipping ALOT lately, there's been some goods and some annoying bads.

I love scuderia, great group of folks. They only work they've ever done for me was remapping my 2004 RSV Factory and for a pretty damn good pricing considering it's san francisco. To me it's a great shop but I haven't been in there for my SXV yet.

Any reason why you picked the '11 over the '09 sitting on the showroom floor of elk grove right now?
