    Front end weirdness

    Hey fellas,

Bit of a front end issue that I actually cant put a finger on. It feels a little wishy washy. Cornering with a bit of a wrist twist makes it feel like the rear is pushing the front. Its not massive thing...barely noticeable.... but just doesnt feel like its precise and on a rail any more.

Front tyre is about 60% new and correctly inflated.
I cant feel any clicks thru the bars as I turn them.
Bike has 45k on the dial.

Ive read a bit on here about revalving them. Is what Im experiencing the indicator that this needs to be done? If not...any other suggestions?

    Cheers,

    Andrew

I'd suggest at the very least get the fork oil changed, as it's unlikely to have been changed, or serviced in that time. If the funds are available then by all means get the valves re done, but then once the front is sorted you will want the rear upgraded as well!!

Changing the oil is a very easy task once you have the forks out, with stands etc. Let me know if you want some help, and we could arrange something.

Hoh, Hum, another shitty day in paradise!

While the front forks are out disconnect the damper if you have one then check the steering head bearings. Possibly a good time to pull, inspect and renew if needed.

Always love your offers Ex....because there is the possibility if home brew behind them!!

Im pretty happy with the bum of it. I had Forza put a new spring on a shock I got from RossGuzzi. VERY pleased with that set up now. This front end thing has only been noticable in the last few weeks. Just doesnt feel right...or more specificaly....doesnt feel as tight as it used to. I once took it to Freedom motorcycles for a pink slip....and that guy said it needed a new bearing in the front....and didnt want to give me the pink slip because of it. I took it back to Motorcycle weaponry to see what they thought....and they couldnt find fault with it.

    Suspension just confuses me....

No worries, fresh oil is a minimum. and yes the bearings can be checked and greased/swapped at the same time if necessary. It will cost though but nothing like a dealer/stealer will charge, although if you want to take it out to Forza, by all means....a great service he provides, bar none!!

I quite agree, altho you sell yourself way short there Ex. Pretty good service there with your bad self. Plus, I really dig the mechanical lessons I learn working with you.
Cheers for the advice. And you too Ross. Ill try and sort something soon with you Ex.

if this is a recent and noticable occurance, start with checking your tire pressure.

but changing your oil is a good second step.

Check your shock too, if it's tired and not doing its job correctly (fading, squatting, etc.) your front end will push under power in corners.

Steering head bearing Ross...and it turns out this is exactly the problem. Took the bike to a mates house and jacked the front of the ground. Its not too bad...but its there. The whole Freedom experience was 3 years ago. Still not sure what he was feeling. But i can certainly feel it now. Notch right in the middle. Im doing research now. Gonna give this one a whirl on my own.

The whole front end has to come off, to do both top and bottom bearings. You will need to suspend the front of the bike from rafters or similar or a couple of engine stands at the front.

Why, oh why don't manufacturers fit taper roller head bearings as standard? The cost differential would be minute.
