    Engine dead ?

Hey guys, recently i got my scooter out just to make it start and let it idles for 5 mins, It's pretty cold outhere atm (about -20 celcius), when i got it out it itled for like 2 or 3 minutes then the fuel pump primed and it killed the engine, after that the starter was just cranking, i tought it was my battery that was dead because my dash was flashing, but after 2 days of fully charging, the battery is full and the scooter is still cranking...

So i changed my sparkplug for a new one, Nothing changed

I went trought the ecu codes, no codes are showing up ( i cleared them to see if it would fix it) Nothing changed

And that's about it... I can still hear the fuel pump prime but the engine is not fiering up, why D: ? What is the problem ?

    Thanks guys

What do you mean the fuel pump primed? The fuel pump is always running when the engine is running.

To me it seemed like it went into Start up mode, Like when you turn on the scooter the buzzing sound seems to be louder than when its running... that's what i found flagrent just before the engine died

Even if we ignore the fuel pump sound, What could have happened ? I Mean, It was just running outside when it was really cold then the engine stopped... What could be the possibilities ? Could it be linked to the ignition ? The gas injection or the piston itself ?

So i checked for spark, I got plenty... It also get gas and seems like it got a good compression (i don't have a compression gaudge :/ but it seems like its moving normal amount of air at the exsausht... (yes i know not really a good check, i should get a compression gaudge..)

I don't think its a frozen airline because even after few days in the garage it's still not starting...

What could be the other causes ? Air leakage ? And how do i check for starter fluid ?

Starting Fluid is available at Canadian Tire and other automotive stores...

You can do this by yourself, but it does help to have a second person.

Remove the Air box (or pod filter as the case may be), put in a quick shot into the Intake manifold and go on the starter. Once she runs, continue to give it shots to keep her running (be careful as the starting fluid is designed to start 4 to 8 cylinder cars/trucks do spraying and spraying will just flood her).

It takes a bit of practice, but you could have her idle until your can runs dry. NOT recommended BTW. This is just to confirm and rule out certain issue/problems. If you can maintain her running for I'd say up to 30 seconds, that should be good enough.

While she is running, you could use a spray bottle of soapy water to check the air lines, water trap and compressor for leaks. This is also where having a second person with you will come in handy...

    Report back here...

Tim, don't you have to disconnect the injectors first before trying the starting fluid method?

Yes, in most cases you do..., the exception would be if you are using the starting fluid to "assist" with getting it starting and then let the bike "take over"...

Yes you do. I am almost positive that has to be done.. I have read it many times.. Most likely from Rich himself.

This goes to show, if you don't have the proper tools, all you're going to do is guess.
Dobs, you need to get a compression tester, and gauges to test the air and fuel psi. Probably get new 0-rings as well and replace them on the injectors after you clean them.

What types of gauges should i get to check for air/fuel psi ?
