Potential damage from running no coolant can be pretty extreme... My head gasket blew several time's on my SR50R for unknown reasons, the barrel and engine case were both machined flat and it still blew every 2 month's or so at a cost to me off £125 a time.

when a head gasket goes it leak's coolant into the head causing it to be ejected from the exhaust and there for making the bike run on no coolant. The damage occurs as the engine heat's up and has no way to cool down causing the piston and rings to reach higher temperatures than they should and make them fail... Other downsides are that this puts extra stress on other bearing such as main bearings and small end bearings meaning there life shortens and they fail quicker.

Ok that sounds bad, I am keeping a close eye on my cylinder head and coolant levels. Do u think it's an Aprilia design fault? I have taken my head off and everything seems to be ok. when your head gasket blows do u take it to a shop or do it yourself (does £125 include parts and labour if u take it to a shop?) maybe next time i will get a honda or yamaha (what are your thoughts on these brands?) Thanks.

Aprilia is one of the worlds best manufacture of scooters and street bikes.
Remember, if you remove your head, you need to replace that gasket regardless. They are only good for one install. Gaskets cost under $10 USD and you can easily do it yourself.

my bike came with a broken ignition so i have replaced all but the steering lock touches and prevents the steering from moving freely (the key is in off position) how can i adjust the steering or the lock to stop it catching? thanks in advance.
