Is the carbon frame BMC's solution to the OEM filter peeling back in the OEM filter holder? I can see how that would be MUCH more rigid than a rubber surround like the OEM K&N style. I dig the approach, seems pretty slick. I will be interested to hear back from you on your second airbox inspection if it's ingested any debris. [fingers crossed that it works well and deosn't get any blow-by]
I believe that it's design is for more surface area not debris containment. BMC has a website dedicated to the carbon filter, www.carbonracingfilter.com, which explains its benefits. I don't know if their science is correct or not but it's trick and I like it. Price varies but it's around $300.

Parts are back from the Welder. A BIG THANKS to Eric of www.performanceweldingservice.com. This guy is great at what he does, a real perfectionist who is also a builder of some really cool racecars. You can get an idea of what I'm up to but the final fitting is tight and will require a fitting I don't have. Update when I get it.

mate that looks absolutely bloody fantastic I can't believe Aprilia used rubber hoses Ducati have been using braided for years that looks really well done congrats.....
On another note I think this engine actually needs a carbon air box......
I LOVE the new Oil cooler. How much to get another one made unless we can find a few peeps willing to go in on a group buy? The Carbon Air Box would be really sick as well.
In the garage now 2001 Suzuki GSXR-1143, 2004 RSV Factory & 2010 RSV4 Factory. Somehow ended up with an inline 4, V-twin & V4.
Looks good Eape, keep the pics coming.Too bad that beautiful BMC CF filter is covered up. 1/2 the cost of the BMC is probably the case it comes in.
I finally got things loosely fitted and still need to trim the left side hose a bit. The project came together nicely, better than I expected. The fittings, hose ends and hose are Aeroquip. Also finished applying DEI reflect-a-gold tape to the top section of the airbox and replaced 95% of the external engine bolts with Ti Race Spec bolts. Samco hoses all around as well. Afam 520 Pinion with Ti retainer bolt.

Eape I was hoping you were going to open up the side covers and lighten the flywheel and alternator...
How much weight do you think you saved with the TI hardware?

Not sure why you thought I was going to lighten the flywheel and altenator as I've only shown the oil cooler and related parts. The idea is interesting, what would you gain and what would you sacrifice in doing so. Quick revs, less weight? Would it hurt the balance of the bike? Does Aprilia do this on the race bike? I think I would need a lot of questions answered first.
As for the Ti weight savings, its negligible at best.

not sure what the stock flywheel weighs but its common on ducats they shave about a kilo off the flywheel. Revs faster and contributes to less gyroscopic effects. As long as you didn't take too much weight off you shouldn't have any negatives. Tim Radley may be able to answer what they do on the race bikes. Same goes for alternator not sure how much it weighs...

My S1000RR was an early one with the light crankshaft (they have since added 2 kg to it....thats a lot) thinking back and one of the things I noticed when swapping to the RSV4 was the ease of matching rpm's when gear changing, more so when just cruising along, I found smooth (non quick shifter) changes on the BMW quite difficult, if I had ever taken a passenger I am sure there would be some complaints
My buddy put the lighter flywheel on his Ducati and racing crankshaft and he raved about it. Said it was amazing how it just pulled the front wheel at will. Actually said it was a little harder to ride since he couldn't keep the front end down though. But, that was on the torque monster 1198!
if those are Ti rear rotor bolts, the speedo wont work.....needs to some iron in them for the sensor
