Just saying, the alternator is what 500W? 1W=.001341Hp so... at max load, it pulls .6Hp... It's not rocket surgery
No matter where you go, there you are.

it generates 400 W but are you shure that the eficinecy is 100% ...meaning that it consumes only 400W to generate 400W?
As I do not know the eficiency of the system I would not be so sure about that calculation.

Typical efficiency of a brushless alternator is about 70 - 80%. Main losses are heat.............

ID:	181132So we did today the first test on laboratory. The switching part works like a charm. We have used a car alternator for test and the device worked perfect. next step is to put in on the motorcycle to see how it works on the Aprilia magneto... but as it was dimensioned it will be more than good. Keep you updated....and hrre some pictures!

Excellent ..... and I see you also mill your own oscilloscopes!

Indeed... we hve some crafting experince here ... and it costs only 100 euros to mill a 15000 eur scope ... whell the advantage of living in a 3rd w cowntry: you can find no parts so you have to machine them :P
Unfortunatelly our first run was not a success... the car alternator does not run like a magneto (the Aprilia magneto is very powerfull.... hard to desing without specification)from the RSV... so back to the drawing board!!!
But have no feed we are engineers... worst case we will mill some parts from scrap :P
    Keep you updated

Ah well these setbacks are a nuisance ... but they happen and are all steps towards a good solution. Keep up the good work.

Are you trying to tell us that you are starving and in need of food?

I just got my new Rick's Motorsports Mofset style rec/reg today. I'll take some pics after install tomorrow, and let you guys know how it works. My new High output YUASA battery tomorrow.

I'm a bit confused here...how can you compare the Aprilia alternator which has FIXED or PERMANENT magnets (therefore there will always be permanent magnetic drag/hp loss) against a stock auto alternator which has a SWITCHABLE ELECTRO magnets? (cut the power and the electromagnetic field ceases) ?

It is just a hair larger. Works like a charm too. I had to switch the brown plug over from the stock one, since mine was a little different than the new one. Went from charging at around 13.8v to 14.4 ish at idle. Oddly enough, the bike even seems to start quicker. When idling the headlight doesn't even dim! Rick's has them for $150. http://www.ricksmotorsportelectrics....EwMDBGYWxjbw==

Even the automotive alternator constantly consumes horsepower as it is never gong to be switched off entirely since the engines systems are consuming electric power continuously. The problem with our permanent magnet system is that it is constantly generating at full capacity due the crude shunt type regulator. Some mosfet regulators are still shunt type and do not alter this. Only a series regulator can truly throttle back the alternator output.

Thanks for info.your part is a mosfet type but still works by shunting the alternator. I am working on a diferrent type=series regulator not shunt.
