major rear brake problem, what the hell happened??

rite guys i know its alot to read but PLEASE read as i dont have a clue what the hell happend?

ok well me n one of me pals went for a drive tonight (VERY FROSTY COLD ECT) so anyway we drove a good few miles stopping for mybe half an hour from place to place, well anyway we stopped near a canel and left the bikes off for maybe up to an hour and it was frosty as hell!!! so i rode the bike down the road to head home and found it was struggling to rev and pick up speed quickly, so i thoiught aahh its cold it wont perform gr8 and pulled over again for a min, i then noticed it was hard to push " as if the rear brake was binding i thought o gr8 thats me stuck far from home but tryed to ride it home as much in low gears as i could, tapping the brake vigerously hoping it would free off (I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST FROST STICKKING THE PADS ON AS WE HAD STOPPED OFTEN ECT) but then i looked down and the disc was GLOWING!! i immediatly pullled over pretty much shitting one as i found NO back brake (it went completely flat) , and tryed to remove caliper with an adjustable which failed , then my mate came back and the dics cooled down so gave it a push and it was FREE but stilll no rear brake at all but i thought gr8 il just get home and sort it then, on the final way home i thought id tap the rear brake see if i got a response and IT WAS COMPLETLEY FINE AND BACK TO NORMAL, DISC DIDNT HEAT ECT ALL FINE

so please guys tell me, WTF MADE IT DO THAT, WHAT HAPPEND??

WAS IT THE FROST BINDING THE PADS, DISC MAYBE WARPED BUT CANT FEEL EWT

i know iv gone on a bit , just tryed to tell u each step ect

thanks for readin, think its time to get it stored for winter

, im gonna ride it a short journey to college in the morning and grease up all of the caliper, back of the backs, piston ect ect when im back (got a early start)

When's the last time you checked your pads before this happened? I had a similar thing happen to me when my pads got worn down too far. I think it had something to do with the piston coming out too far an not being able to retract.

Yeah I don't know what would've caused them to free up if it was the same thing that happened to me.

For some reason your brakepads where running against the disk, things got hot, brakefluid started to boil (old fluid?) and the brake locked up even more.

Maybe your one of those dudes that doesnt know there keeping there foot on the brake pedal all the time pushing the brakepads just up against the disk?

In anycase i would check the Brakefluid, bleed it, and put fresh fluid in, check the pump and caliper if everything operates freely first!

Oh, and you now do need to replace the brakepads, because they will be burned/glazed and are useless now.

ummm, i have pulled apart 3 rear systems in the last few months (rs50) on all, there was debree in the fluid (tiny black patriculs), on one this debree had blocked the hole for the rear brake switch jamming the brake on or at the very least partually. the glowing disk is caused by friction between the brake pads and disk, the sugestion to change the fluid is a must, and after the crap i have seen in these systems i would keep bleeing untill it runs clear. sometimes brakes just jam (jam seems abit harsh, maybe rub is better) due to brake dust that builds up after a while. check the hose isnt getting trapped anywhere.

RS50 takes DOT5 or DOT5.1 brakefluid, if you put other brake fluids in there you risk damadge to the rubbers.

Rear brakeswitch being blocked isnt gonna block the brakes btw, so in that case something else must have been blocked als, but in a lot of cases wen you take the presure of the system what ever was blocked gets cleared and you never find wat was wrong.

If you think the wrong fluid is in there its best to properly clear the whole system because DOT3 and DOT5(.1) dont mix, it does with DOT4 but... DOT4 affects the rubbers.

    cheers for the comments guys

i rode it college this morning and everything was fine

when i got back i toke the calipers and pads apart ect , pushed postons back no probs and cleaned up the pads, caliper linings ect ect and greased up the back side of the pads and the piston

when i checked the fluid and HASNT dropped

but i already knew that i need a set of new pads on both so as soon as college finally get my payment (due nxt week so nearlly there) the first thing is new pads and re-fresh fluid
