    FNG (f*ckn new guy)

I'm new to the Aprilia community. Owned several bikes prior to this. Had an 08 Honda CBR 1k that I used for the track, I recently sold that. Was looking to downgrade to a 600 for track days, but people were asking too much for it and there just weren't that many on sale when I was looking for one. Was going to wait for the MV Agusta F3 but I couldn't go long without a bike. So i Picked up the 2010 Aprilia RSV4R (came with a factory engine). Had 12 miles on it on the showroom

Anyways I see the whole Aprilia community is much different that the Duc's and the Japanese bikes. The forums aren't as active as other forums from what I've noticed also.

A question. I'm going to wait a bit 6 month/ 3k miles/ More track days on bike before I add any performance parts (Suspension/Exhaust etc, etc). As of right now All I'm doing is cosmetic, protection and suspension tuning. I was going to go the ECU(Akra Map) and full system Akra exhaust. Now on my other bikes I also included an air filter when I did such mods,I read a few threads but none mentioned adding an air filter. Would I/ Should I do it on the ape also? And which filter should I use if I do? I've used BMC on the other bikes. Well hope to hear from you good people. Ciao.

Welcome to the fold FNG! I had to explain to my co-worker what FNG meant. Sad really...

Anyway, how do you know it's the Factory engine? Both are the same save for mag covers, variable inlet trumpets and the ECU/wiring harness.

The seller and owner of the place I purchased it from both had to check the engine numbers to make sure. Ran as a factory engine when they looked it up, magnesium cover and such he explained why there was a diff engine on this particular R totally blanked out when he did and was just hoping he wasn't going to raise the price. also ran as a factory when I checked the VIN on a "aprilia VIN checker" site. (not sure how reliable those are.)

Ductape, Where did you order the filter from? found it on a site but they didn't have a US distributor.

I recommend you read as much as possible before spending money on normal horsepower improvements that you would make with regular bikes. You won't get the return on investment that you would on the Aprilia.

The reason to change the filter is for the improved sealing benefits. Use the search feature. Mine had dirt in the airbox after only a few hundred miles. I have the Pipercross and I bought it from AF1 racing, the good folks who sponsor this site. I try and support them as much as possible when they have the parts you need.
