I went to replace my stator and found it looks just like the one in the first pic
I have already purchased a stator from Ricks , and a new sprag and housing...
The flywheel doesn't appear to be available individually. How stupid would it be to clean it up and re-use it? It has some gouges...
TURN 4 HURTS!
If it is just beat up a little but structurally sound clean it up and go.
Post a picture if you can.
will do KZ !! need to get it off first
TURN 4 HURTS!
Here is a pic of the flywheel. I tried to show the worst of the damage.
Here is another, different angle.

It's hard to tell from pictures. It's just a judgement call you will have to make. Clean all the damaged areas and inspect closely. Make sure there are no cracks in the outer housing.
I have a perfect flywheel sat right here ...... its for sale too! I have even cleaned it!

How noisy was that? That oughta show up in the oil at change time as well.

The rotor is a magnet, so it held most of the flakes...it did sound like rocks in a coffee can though, I was thinking it was the sprag.
TURN 4 HURTS!
12.9 bolts were introduced in late 2000, together with loctite on 'em, after some bolts losening and consequential stator faliure. No more trouble since on production motors
8.8 bolts are enought as far as you tight fine and use good loctite
use a good thread locker on those bolts and doublecheck the tightening while doing yourself the spragclutch replacement
I have some lightened flyweels to sell (on the right the newer motor "pizza" weight lightene as weel):
(i have spare used stators too if you still need... i've to check for 3 12.9 bolts)

Gabro, how much weight did that shave off? You know how much margin there is untll failure from overrev?
Just asking since I now became interested in using the mill and lathe myself this winter..
My engine is a stock 2002 model
that flyweel is machined 1.8mm down, up to 2.0mm is safe
wheight saving is about 0.2kg
