Changing the oil on aprilia sportcity one 125

I just bought some Motul oil with the right specs and I'm wanting to change the oil on my aprilia, 2011 model. I'm at 1000 k's at the moment. Do I use the same sort of oil for both the hub and the engine? The manual says to drain the oil first, then put in 200 mL of oil.

Anyone done this before? Does this sound right? I just want to make sure I don't mess it up.

    cheers

Sounds like you're referring to the gear oil. The manual will also specify in the chapter that lists the recommended consumables what weight of gear oil, likely 75-90 or 80-90. Get it at pretty much any bike shop. It is definitely NOT the same as engine oil. Check Youtube. There is bound to be a vid on basic fluid service.

No. The hub oil is called "gear oil" and the Sportcity 125 calls for full synthetic 75W90 gear oil. That is a hard one to find except at the Aprilia dealer, but I suppose you could substitute. Really at 1000km. the hub oil should look almost new since it does not get the workout that the engine oil does, so you could leave it. There's a spin-on oil filter too that you could change at the same time you change the engine oil. Both the correct hub oil and filter are available at AF1 parts. I hope you have better luck removing the oil bolt. The oil bolt on my sportcity 125 was really on tight. Same with the hub oil hex bolt (7mm) and the filter too. The service manual is available on this forum. Just type in "Sportcity 125" in the search section and click on the last entry where someone located the manual. It has great pictures of everything. Yes, 200 ml is right for the hub oil and the engine takes a liter. Good luck. It should be a lot easier the second time.

I see, thanks for the help. I just bought this 4T 10w40 oil, I guess it's just for the engine? It's what the dealership recommended. I had that filter changed at 600k's and it was a big rip off, so that's why I'm trying to do things myself from now on. You're right about the hub oil, the level hasn't changed since I got it. Is there a way to tell if it's not fresh and should be replaced though? After how many k's did you change your gear oil?

at 1000 km you should take scooter to first service and do nothing if you don't want to lose factory warranty

In your owners manual there is a maintenance schedule(at the back if it's like mine). If you follow it, you can't go wrong. Some might say you don't have to replace some things as often but since you seem to be new at it, it wouldn't be a bad thing to be aware of things that need regular attention.
Your gear oil won't drop in level unless you have a leak. It will lose its ability to lubricate and will become dirty over time. My 200 recommends a change at 1000 kms(600 miles) and then every 20,000 kms (12,000 miles). I actually change it before I put my scoot away for the winter each year.
Engine oil changes I do more frequent than the schedule. I do a mid summer oil change.
Like a previous post said, maintenance gets easier each successive time.
