According to Austin racing there is no need for race ecu
What do you say about it ?
It looks really cool and sounds very nice too .

I'm not saying it, the experts are & I would follow their advice.
Have a look at the RSV4 section there are many discussions on Race ECU's and slip-ons.
It's not that I don't believe you. I don't know anything, it's why I'm asking.
I'll have a look over there, thnx.
Slip on retains 90% of the oem pipework and ecu's adapt to a certain extent to conditions. US emissions laws in certain States might make it worse to run a slip on without ecu change but on the whole I'd suggest it's no problems at all. I've done it.
There is no problem. It's scaremongering to sell you unnecessary stuff.
Hope your right Mo, I'm still as confused as ever - I've no idea whether it's fact based scarremongering or not, for all we know Euro mapping may be different to US mapping as we have differing regulations on emissions control.

I asked George Whites this same question as my Akrapovic will be fitted during first service, and they say there is no need for any new mapping at all
Called Austin Racing today to be sure.
There is absolutely NO NEED for a race ECU or remap with a slip on can.
I was fairly sure but this just cements it. Austin Racing said and I quote "it's just scaremongering by some larger exhaust manufacturers to sell more stuff".
I'm curious to see what the guys at AF1 will say about this?
The thread in question is based on the 2010 US mapping.
I personally have done a dyno run on the version II 2010 map w/ a slip-on and the bike's air/fuel was 15:1 at 15% throttle around 5000RPM. The bike was noticeably lean, and it was noticeable when cruising around - the throttle response was better with the stock system on stock mapping.
In the UK, it has been said their mapping is less lean, but I haven't seen anything conclusive.
What I would recommend is to test it out for yourself on a dyno with a well maintained gas analyzer. In particular, check air/fuel at small throttle openings around cruising RPM (3000-6000).
I would not listen to the guy who wants to sell you a muffler. I would listen to the information handed down from the engineers of the stock mapping and engine (Aprilia) while taking into account the potential to void your warranty.

Aprilia wants/requires you to use the RACE mapping for any of their Akrapovic slip-ons, so why would it be different for any other brand of slip-ons? There arent any magically different slip-ons

Seems to me most of the ECU remap protagonists are US based. It amuses me that things like "fitting unnecessary extras" annoys some on the RSV4 section yet they are happy to claim they can "remap" a stock ECU using codes not approved by Aprilia for a cheaper price. Must be the distance and the US market in general but I have contacts who have extensive knowledge at Aprilia UK and Spiltlath Aprilia in BSB and they provide the same info as Austin Racing. Full system: must have a race ECU to run properly. Street legal slip-on: it's not required.
