Exclamation SXV exhaust leak after derestriction

So my 07 5.5 just recently was derestricted and now its got exhaust leaks at both header pipes at the head side I read into what the derestriction entails and the exhaust def was taken off and re-installed (the work was done by a Aprilia dealer). Are there donut gaskets in there that were re-used and should've been replaced???

You already tried loosening and retorquing the manifold bolts... right?

If the leak is between the heads and the head pipes, try using two exhaust gakets to seal each pipe, one used and one new in each head should work.

I use a little Permatex high temp silicone to keep them in place while fitting the pipes.

I think there is a thread about modifying and using thicker exhaust gaskets from a Yamaha TTR 125 on the forum somewhere. I have not tried it.

The '07 and '08 models came from the factory with one exhaust gasket. Later models came with 2 gaskets installed.

    Thumbs up

Thanx guys!! I bought some new copper donuts for it today and will be installing them Monday. I'll try the one used one old idea as long as the old ones aren't completely toast.. They're not leaking real bad so they should be usable for that.

Installed the new donuts(over the old) and no more annoying leaks. Thanx again!

New Question_With my attention on the exhaust, I noticed the head pipe off the rear cylinder glows red(not like bright orange, but just a little cherry red) while cruising at 4-5000 RPM. Is this normal or is my tune too lean?? I figure the front isn't glowing due to wind cooling it..

Sounds lean to me. What map are you using?

I agree with Allen, do you know what map the dealer loaded? On all the maps the rear cylinder has richer fueling than the front so I would assume that the front is running leaner. With the air flow across the front pipe it would be hard for the pipe to glow.

To be safe I would clean your plugs, let the bike warm up, and go for soft cruising ride with most of your time in the problem RPM/Throttle band. Let the bike cool and check your plugs.

If the TPS is set too high the ECU will think that the throttle is open less and inject a smaller amount of fuel. This will cause a lean condition, the problem will be the worst at low throttle openings as in that area the injected fuel numbers are very low.
KWest - Improper engine managment setup can result in damage to your engine, person, and the people around you. Please tune responsibily.

Not sure exactly what map, but the bike hasn't been re-mapped since July 08, so the map is from around then..

I was thinking that it's prob a bit lean too. I'll call the dealer today and find out what map it is and post it later on.
