    Oil Filter Tool for Sportcity?

    Hi,

What tool do you use to remove the oil filter on a 08 250 sportcity? The filter is about 52mm diameter.

    Thanks!

I have an 09, not sure if it's the same filter. On the end of the filter is a notch. I used a cheap wrench from an old motorcycle tool kit and used it like a screwdriver by inserting it in the notch. A large screwdriver might work too.

I used a cheap belt filter remover that slides over the filter.

Tom - I am having a bit of trouble following you to the list with the conversion numbers to search. Can you provide the Fram or STP numbers that fit the Sport City 250? I had someone provide me an Amsoil filter that they said was a match however it was too large a diameter to fit into the area machined in the engine casting on my 2009 250cc Sport City.

Fram does not make a compatible filter cause I called the company and gave them the HF 183 number.

A co-worker that is only in the office every few months claims it is the same one as on his Yamaha Jet Ski however I do not know what model his jet ski is or the filter number he is using. He found out by grabbing the wrong filter from his garage and accidently swapping them so that he ended up putting the Aprilia filter on his jet ski and the jet ski filter on his Aprilia. Since then he only buys the more economical jet ski filters which I believe he said are available at Walmart.

It may be a few months before we cross paths again and I do not know his last name so I can't look him up in the company directory to email him (Over 1,500 employees).

For filters try Ebay. Every now and again they have the HF-183 listed for very reasonable prices. I believe HF (Hi-Flo) makes the filters for Piaggio.
For a filter wrench, try Harbor Freight. They have 2 oil filter wrenches cheap.

The cheapest I've been seeing on ebay is $9.50/ea. Which is RIDDDICULOUS for a spin-on filter. still waiting for that magical deal.

With the Hi-flo filters I always resort to a sharp screwdriver and hammer. Not very elegant, but it gets the job done.

PH6017A is the only FRAM filter used in the Yamaha Personal Watercraft so I am going to check it out as a co-worker suggested as a fit for the Piaggio 250's and 500's.

A trip to Walmart may be in order.
