    RS80 Naked

After about 9 months of work it's finally done. This project started when a friend broke his stock crank and decided to go with a different motor (see http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/s...d.php?t=219316), leaving me with a disassembled motor and a few other spare RS parts (frame, forks, seat). Slowly collected and/or machined the remaining parts into the following:

    Frame:
    -2000 rs50 anodized black
-handmade single-seat saddle support (4130 chromoly) with death spike
-clearly visible license plate to avoid police harassment

    Motor:
    -2003?
    -malossi 80cc kit
    -doppler endurance crank
    -dellorto 21mm carb
    -oil pump removed
    -starter removed (push start)
    -arrow exhaust

    Electrical:
    -Stock brake light
-LED turn signals (front mounts are temporary, still have to machine the permanents)
-mychron 3 digital readout: tach and cht, soon to add a coolant temp line
    -single-beam headlight from suzuki dealership

    Other:
-many many many small machined spacers and what nots (mostly turned on a lathe), including front wheel spacers, gas tank mounts, throttle and clutch spacers/extenders, random washers...that's all I can think of for now.

Most other parts not listed are stock and were collected from ebay, craigslist, af1, etc.

Pics aren't great, but here you go:

Verry nice job on that one.

I probably would bent the Exhoust up a little just past the expancion chamber and than down again a littl just infront of the silencer so it ends up just below the licence plate.

And i would have fitted a smaller front fairing and 2 little headlights.

Make a Custom Front Sprocket cover, and a Customn Chain protector might look cool also.

Might be nice to paint the engine and footrests etc black also, or atleast part of them.

I like her but i think you need to get a bigger headlight imo. Shes so far and dodgey looking from the front but other than that shes tidy. The pics are great.

Yea I think I do need a bigger headlight. The only reason I used the one I did is I picked it up super cheap at a closeout sale. First I want to figure out some kind of small front fairing. Not sure if I should custom fab or use one off some random bike. I want to integrate the headlight, front fairing and turn signal mounts using machined aluminum fork clamps

I like the idea for the exhaust, but I just don't feel like messing around with it now. Maybe in the future.

I also have the front sprocket cover and rear fender/chain guard, just not installed yet.

The only reason I didn't paint the footrests black is because I didn't want to have to touch them up constantly from my shoes rubbing off the pain. I decided to just bead blast and clear coat them to break up all of the black that's already on the bike with a little contrast.

    More pics

Front fairing complete! I decided to stick with the headlight I had, for some reason I'm a bit attached...You'll also notice I'm running the stock coolant temp gauge. I have yet to buy the sensor to hookup to my computer, but sometime in the future.

Now that is a sweet custom! I bet the bike is so much quicker with all of that weight taken off!

Accelerates faster for sure but top speed will be lower because of the poor aerodynamics, it has a pretty big impact on a bike like the RS50 even at 50mph, if you think its not a big difrence go down a straight road flat out with your kneeds tucked against the frame/tank, your elbows close to your boddy and your head behind the windshield, and see hoe fast it goes, than decelerate a little and sit up straight in a more comfortable position, and go flat out again and see how much difrence that makes.

But i really like this streetfighter conversion, hope it accelerates like crazy.
Nice front fairing, bit MadMax style.

I haven't actually weighed it yet, so we'll see. I would agree with Patrick on the aerodynamics, although my biggest problem with top speed right now is the stock gear ratio (12:47)!

I like the mad max reference as well.

I got 12/47 on mine , goes like crazy to its topspeed of 60mph, just takes a few seconds to get there.
(73cc TP kit, 24mm Mikuni, Gianelli pipe, Race Crank, TP iCDI, custom upgraded clutch etc. etc.)

I wouldnt go for a high topspeed with yours, but aim for good acceleration with a nice speed, suits the bike style better i think.

RS Patrick: Quicker = Accelerates faster, I appreciate your trying to teach me physics but we already have a scientist in our club :-)

Machinist: You should change the rear sprocket for a smaller aluminum one, maybe a 43. This will give you a little more top speed and reduce the rotating mass = win win. Most popular sprocket setup here in the US in 13/43 so if you change the rear and find you still want to sacrifice acceleration for top speed you can still order the 13 front later.

I use Alloy sprockets on my bike to reduce the weight, that cuts the weight even more, especaily if you would fit a smaller one, but there expensive and wear out a little faster.
(think i got a Mayse rear sprocket now) but basicly the difrence is so small you only notice it while racing on a track.
Other than that i would just change the Front Sprocket to 14 tooth or 15 tooth if you got a more serious street setup.
Than your able to do a quick change between front sprockets also if you want/need it to pull harder/go faster for a trip/ride, though it causes extra wear on chain and sprockets if you do that.

Yea im leaning towards changing the front sprocket first because its very easy to do. I definitely want to change it though because 1st gear is barely good for 5mph...
