    RS50 1995 Project

    Hi,

I found this bike on a site being advertised for sale a couple weeks ago, i searched around the net and gathered abit of information about them before i went for a drive about 4 hours away to pick it up. This is her...

Then.. One night i went crazy and took her clothes off.

Her clothes over my bedrooms floor..

Over the last few weeks i've sandblasted some parts and painted them. I've ordered some parts and now iam just waiting for them to arrive.

I'll keep this thread upto date.

    Thanks
    Ronne

The foot stand when i got the bike was bent and broken, someone tried welding it on the frame... I just pulled the stand and it broke off the frame.
I bought a universal stand and got a guy at work to help me make up a braket that he welded on for me.
These are the pics, it should blend in nice once it's powder coated with the frame.
(Note: I may need to shorten the length of the stand)

Does the Sidestand stay clear of the Rear Swingarm and Chain?

Yeah, i checked all of that. There's alot of clearance.
I'll most likley have to shorten the stand anyway so the bike sits on the right angle, and that will allow more clearance.

Oh boy... those reeds are a hoax as far as im concerned, i only manged to get less power from them on a dyno. I dont know, maybe im doing something wrong, but so far no one has contradicted it, or told me how ive should have set it up.

If your a bit technical you can figure out why, the ineer reeds open from the suction/underpressure in the crankcase letting feul in, and the outer ones simply wont open than, or atleast not as far as normal reeds would do because theres not enough suction/underpresure left in the crankcase because the little reeds already came open.

Posted this a few times before even as recently as last week i think wen someone fitted them.

I have done some reading around the net. It seems that, the inner reed only opens at higher RPM and the outer reed is ment to open for lower RPM. There was a thread on here in the sr50 section and the guys who put them in said that they were decent and did notice a difference to stock reeds. I've also watched a few u-tube vids about them, they all say that they are good. Though, if you reccommend a good set of reeds, i'll grab them.

Thats what the manufacturer claims but its not doing that, the inner reeds open and then theres not enough vacume to pull the outer ones open (far enough), i dynoed them my self and lost HP compaired to normal 0.30mm carbon reeds.

I worked for a company that also did import and got to test new products for RS50's to see if they where worth for us to import and market.

A lot of things hardly give any gain, or/and they cost so much compaired to an alternative that works just as good or better that its not worth getting them.

And sometimes you get really suprised by things that you think cant be any good, that turn out to perform really well like Technigas exhaust, they where really cheap back than and rusted away while you looked at them (extra clearcoat of heat resitand paint solves that fine) but they performed just as wel or better than a Giannelli or Arrow exhaust on a stock (derestricted) bike.

Anyway, your rear end is comming out nice, mines all fiberglass, wish i could make them my self, so many people want them but there so hard to find

Gaskets should fit fine, keep in mind you need instand gasket to join the 2 halfs of the engine if you plan on doing a full engine rebuild.

If your going with the Pink Top Performances kit, 0.35mm or 0.40mm carbon reeds, like Malossi, Hebo or Top Performances.

A set like this would be best: http://www.easyparts.nl/showarticles...40_VAL.OR.html

Gives you 0.30mm, 0.35mm and 0.40mm reeds to choose from.

Than you can experiment a little with the reeds to see wich gives the best effect.
It can also help if on the bottom you fit one size thinner reeds than on the top because of the rotation of the crankshaft, thats how Polini tells you to fit there reeds, they always come in an uneven pair for that.

    Hi,

My plans to construct a rear racing tail failed last night. I've given up on my other fairing repairs also, their just too far gone. The only good peices are the tank and front wheel fairing.

I'm thinking about a street fighter appeal... I'll see how it goes.

    What went wrong?

Cant you make your own full Fiberglass fairings using the original ones as a template?

Trying to make fiberglass stick to this black plastic is hell on its own and when the mounting lugs are broken it's just annoying. If i get time and motivation, i might lay the fairings down in a jig then use them as a mould.. The side front fairings are just useless, all the mounting spots are cracked.

But, i've seen some nice street fighter bikes on the net. And i have some good ideas.
