    Angry not entering workshop mode

hi everyone, just got my peg built up and on the road, done about 13 miles on it since the full rebuild, now its decided it wants to rest a bit more spitting the sprag clutch out. i've read everything on here that i can so its pretty much decided on that point, but i cant find out if the bmw ones are going to fit this year seems to be older ones the forum is talking about. the main thing is mine is running rich and cuts out a lot, so i wanted to interupt the ecu into workshop mode and tinker with the trimmer, only thing is that its not going into workshop mode. i've done everything by the manuals instructions and i have broke into the wires (on the connector)themselves incase the terminals were bad, but still i get nothing, i'm pretty much screwed without being able to adjust the co on the bike as its just not rideable, it cuts out too, too much. has anyone else had the same probs, can anyone give some advise how to get round it and fix the poor running. i have just done the head gasket, thermostat, amongst nearly everything else being stripped, renewed or repainted, it has aftermarket exhaust cans fitted, otherwise standard, can somebody please help! cheers-mark, at the end of his tether.

Had a similar problem with my 2002 ie I had given her a full service fitted new springs and a few other things to get her ready for the summer .I had the tank of and most of the body work of when I put it all back together she was hard to start would not idle below 2000 rpm and semed to be running weak couldant figure it out was driving me mad striped it all down again checked I had pluged everything in and put it back together again to my suprise started easyly idled at just over 1000 rpm and is running spot on did a couple of runs about 200 mile and no probs at all I will adjust idle as it is a bit low .Only thing is emgine management light is stuck on I have tried to reset it by the book but no luck I am seriously thanking of taking out the bulb.I think my problem was a bad conection in some of the wiring plugs I also noticed that a previous onwer had by pased a wire in one of the plugs going to headlight I think if she keeps running I am going to replace all the plugs in the loom over the winter with good water proof ones.Sorry if this reply is a bit long winded but hope it helps.

thankyou for your info. i bought the bike with a few problems, the sprag has now gone on it, day after i got it on the road, pretty gutted but i didnt know of a sprag before this and didnt think to resa=earch anything before buying bike, but anyway, the bike had not been messed with at all before i got it and it was the same then running wise so i cant see that, i think i have been through all the connections and checked them more than once, i am going to try the brisk spark plug next as looking through the posts there is a few people trying these and saying they do make it run better, thats when i eventually get the money to fix the sprag etc. but apart from that, i just cannot understand why the bike wont enter workshop when everything seems to work correctly, i dont want to get rid just because of this i want to fix it lol.cheers any

    Hi, is this issue solved?

I know this is an old thread, but ...

I ask because I tried what is in the workshop manual to adjust idle speed and CO. It says there to enter dealer mode and then adjust, which is a contradiction. You can't adjust after entering dealer mode, because the engine will not run. And it (at least mine) won't enter dealer mode while the engine ist running.

Switch to dealer mode with not running engine works fine, although I need a watch to time the seconds.

    Cheers,
    Fritze

    Hi Fritze,

In order to enter "Workshop mode with the engine running", engine temperature must be between 80-95 C. So you may have to let it idle for a couple of minutes and when the temp gauge reaches the middle of the scale (80C), short the 2 pins of the connector for 12sec. The "Workshop mode with engine running" is abandoned if you short the connector for another 12sec, or if temperature rises above 95-100C.
