'03 Mille 50-state compliant or different model for CA?

Did a search, but didn't find anything conclusive.

I live in California and am thinking of buying a new '03 RSV Mille from an out-of-state dealer. The (potential) problem is that if the emissions label doesn't say "California Certified" it can't be registered here.

Does anyone know if there was a specific CA-specific Mille in '03, or if they were all 50-state compliant?

    Thanks in advance.

    Mark

If I did my homework right I think it's a CA spec bike and a 49 state spec bike for 02/03. But there are a bunch here that know for sure.

Just out of curiousity... Why not buy one of the '03's that are left at the SoCal dealers?

I'm actually still deciding if I want to get the '03 or spend the extra $$$ for an '04. Of the dealers I've visited, they are almost all R models left. There is one locally that has a non-R '03, but wasn't moving off the $13,500 price tag (except for the $1500 Aprilia cash back offered right now). Basically the only way I'd go for an '03 now is to get a great deal on one, and also to get the color choice I really like, which is lead grey.

Wow, an 03 for $12,000 ($13,500 - cash back $1500)! I picked up one last month from a dealer in St. Louis for $9800 and change. Lots of deals out there for 03's, too bad you need a CA model...

That's kind of funny, the one dealer I went with here sells the '04 R and the '03 Mille and the '03 OTD was only a few bills more.

I'm not sure if it's cool to advertise here so if you want PM me and I'll send you the details.

Found out that there are indeed 49-state and CA-specific variants for the '03's.

    Cali Bike

I bought a Cali bike from a Fl. dealer and the only differnce was the fuel vapor canister and I took that off. To lose about 3lbs.If you buy a bike from another state and it is not a Cali bike I will sell you the canister and this is how you hook it up if you find a good deal! look at the links at Ken`s Falco site and it give you the instructions to remove it all it is is hooking up hoses

Unfortunately, that isn't possible, I'm sure there could be ways around it, but here is the letter of the law:

"California residents are prohibited from importing, purchasing, or leasing a new vehicle from another state, unless the vehicle was manufactured for sale in California and the Environmental Protection Agency label certifies the vehicle has California smog equipment. California considers a new vehicle to be any vehicle with less than 7,500 miles on the odometer at the time it is purchased or aquired. "

So even if you tried to put everything on it that a CA model has, it wasn't manufactured for sale in CA, so you're out of luck.

    No matter, I demo'd an '04 yesterday and I think I'm sold
