At this point I don't know what to do. Should I continue with the project
1 not worry about that dent
2 get a new swing arm
    or
Should I cut my loses and try to part out what I can?

I would assume the swing arm took an aesthetic hit but should be fine- I'd imagine the pipe itself should be farily dented / bent (then again have a pro check that the swingarms straight).

You can see the hit that the Can took and what kind of damage it suffered on the picture above.

Every Mille that has crashed has the same dent in the pipe, don't worry too much about it. I would recommend getting one of these to ensure the swingarm isn't bowed though.

My concern isn't the pipe. My concern is swingarm being dented/bowed etc...
You can see the dent in the picture, or is the dent supossed to be there due to the pipe?

Better yet.... does any one know how to do it and can explain it to me?
So, you "baptized" your bike. Good news that you are OK.
And now you are "going down the rabbit hole"!! Whoo Hoo!!

String the rear end to see if it's straight. If so, rock it the way it is. God knows there are MANY aprilia out there with similar dents in the swing arm.

Check with your insurance agent, technically you were attending a rider safety school. Some insurance companies make allowances for this. Its worth a try.

My guess is that bike would be oh so totaled. And many insurance companies closed the "education" loophole.

Damn, glad you're ok. And at least you binned it at the track. A tree or guardrail would have left you scooping your bike (and probably yourself) up with a shovel.

You say you got it started? I'm curious how you did it with no dashboard? I destroyed mine a while back, and it wouldn't turn over until I put a new dash on it.

Definitely get the swinger checked for straightness. My forks were twisted in the clamps after my dismount, but I loosened everything up, and reset them, and it seems to be fine now, no binding or anything.

I actually bought the bike from Spartukus last month and had it shipped to my place. He did contact his insurance and from what he told me, they were ok with it and helped him out. Then he bought it back from insurance and sold it to me. I got it started just a few days ago and it runs like a champ. Everything seems to be in good working order on it though. The forks are straight. But I haven't tested the swing arm yet.

Everything is attached to the dash though. These bikes wont do anything without it.

Hey Meanstrk! What do you mean when you say "string the rear end and see if its straight?" How would I do that?
