Done this mod on my Triumph Tiger, seems like every brand of bike has a variation of it. As far as I can make out pretty much any 12v R/R can be used. You leave the Alternator side connected as normal (3 black/3yellow, whatever colour) You then just take the positive and negatives on the output straight to battery via a fuse. So in your case SJL join the 2x positive to an inline fuse and connect to battery. 2x negative straight to battery.
It bypasses a chunk of the wiring, thereby increasing voltage. I left all the original wiring/fuses in place so can revert to normal at any time. The hard bit is combining the two + and - into one connector

Would it be worth running 2 x positive all the way to the battery (2 x cable, 2 x fuse holders etc), and 2 x neg to two different earthing points???

    Cheers

Whatever is easiest. But it does mean you have to buy 2x fuse holders. The earths are easier, but I took mine straight to battery, working on the theory that the main earth is there.

The original regulator was getting very hot but so is the new one ! When the bike is running (idle)the voltage at the battery is about 14.5v.
Q.Is the regulator always live as there is voltage on at the Red + and Green - wires even when the ignition is off ?
I'm not much good with electrics so please keep it simple .

Yes the VRR is always live, being connected to the battery.

that's not a mosfet type regulator, just the same Shunt type which dispose a lot of heat.
main reason for this mod, is heat en efficiency !

Just done this using a kit from Motoelectrix with a FH020AA. Took me an hour but bike started first turn and runs fine after sitting for almost 3 months. Only bother is I had also fitted a new s/s exhaust system from Motad (£150- going cheap guys if you need one) and the slightly larger cans dont leave enough room for the slightly larger reg/rec. So its under the seat for now next to the computer thingymabob.
