It was actually somewhat foggy once past Big Sur but made for a nice bit of video:

After finding the fog tunnels, we went back concentrating on finding the twisty bits of the road.

    Nice ride!

Kyle traded up to a streetfighter 1098. Pretty damn sweet even if it is just a first generation Tuono with a trellis frame and dry clutch.

I'm up in Halifax at the moment. We're thinking of setting up a hwy 1 south ride possibly the weekend of the 11th or 18th. A lot of guys over on the Monterey forum haven't ever done it yet.

Halifax Nova Scotia?? Have fun, go see the Bay of Fundy.

I can't imagine never having gone down 1 if you live in Monterey but then again, maybe they're stuntahs. You know the way down so have fun. I might join you if you guarantee these aren't hooligan types with tendencies toward getting their frequent visitor cards punched again (the one they give out at the county pokey).

I will be riding this weekend as soon as the weatherman decides which day will be warmer although warm isn't what either day is likely to be locally. Boulder Creek, though, will be 90 tomorrow and Fri, "cooling" down to 80 on Sat.

The weather has had a brief hot period but it will disappear overnight, too bad. Will ride anyhow because the roads are still completely dry due to the lack of normal rain this winter. Getting back on the mtn bike lately is making the riding easier, less fatigue by a large margin.

Heading out at 9am as usual Sat because it's supposed to be even colder Sun. Sun morning will be mtn bike morning anyhow.

    Where: Municipal Wharf
    When: ksup 9am
    Where to: we'll decide tomorrow

    Obligatory pose:

Video from the same vista point.

Is this getting boring? Same time, same station? Well, I suppose you might be bored looking at the videos of highway 1 but when you're on it, it is not possible to be bored. One tourist put it well, it takes 3 hours to go 45 min. Every bend hides something new and just as mind numbing as the previous.

I doubt my new Hero HD2 will be here before the weekend but the old 960 HD will do nicely. Since it's Mothers' Day, ride will be on Saturday. Destination will depend on the weather report later in the week.

So where are you Ape owners?? Not a one of you has shown up this Spring yet.

    EDIT:

WHERE TO: Route will be south on highway 1 due to temps in the high 80's in the Santa Cruz mtns. Big Sur and Cambria will be around 70.

WHERE AND WHEN: Leaving at 8:45 from the Old Wharf.

Lucia gave a nice view of the fog I had been riding through as it is a bit higher than the inversion layer. A see of fog on top of the ocean, almost like a dessert topped with whipped cream.

Further south, another view of the white layer. While filming this, a guy walked up to say "nice bike, I have a Tuono". He was driving a Camero which turned out to be a rental, he was from England. It was tough to hear with earplugs in so we decided to meet farther down the road for lunch. The Tuono was his first Italian bike and he was in love with it.

The drive south was worth it once again, the weather, esp the fog, cooperated well. Lunch was great once again at the same place in Cambria where Richard continued south and I turned around and went north back to Monterey.

Here's a short 1 min of the best part of the ride home. It isn't the best clip of that section because I messed up in that section with the GoPro.

    Riding Sunday!

    Where: Municipal Wharf
When: ksup 8:45am, arrive earlier tanked up
    Where to: Cambria for lunch

This is the beautiful 2 hour ride down 110 miles of gorgeous road. Leaving at 8:45 means very little problem with the tourists and arrival in Cambria a bit before the restaurant opens, Las Cambritas. The ride includes a few straight sections but it's mostly either meandering almost-fast sweepers but a majority of medium fast curves and as a bonus, a super cool section of tight corners obliging you to flip flop left to right, right to left testing your timing and skill.

Given the low amounts of rain this year, this road is 100% dry and free of silt. You do, though, have to watch out for possible rocks that fall from the cliffs at times when you are coming around the blind corners, especially going north.

Again, nothing but purely perfect ribbons of asphalt under mostly sunny skies, 105 miles down highway 1 from Monterey to Cambria. Having left a bit earlier than usual made a big difference in tourist traffic encountered. I'll do that early departure again for sure. It meant being able to stop for pictures more times than usual too so here are a couple of spots I've been wanting to stop at but haven't until this time.

The first is just below Rocky Point. There's no room for cars to pull off at the tiny patch of dirt at the shoulder (verge, for you Brits). The reward is a really nice view in spite of the misty air. I was really disappointed that I missed a hawk flying straight towards me as it used the rising air currents to drift over the brush looking for rodents.

But I did see and film some slightly larger subjects at Piedras Blancas. You'll notice them flinging sand over themselves to protect from the sun.

my conveyance under the steep rocky cliffs on highway 1

    later on, sunset:
