I've got my cable and have used TuneECU to update the factory map on my bike to the newest version. I did try the Catfish map and had a very uneven idle so I reverted back to OEM. I assume I need to check and adjust my CO at idle.

Local mechanics around me are not interested in letting me tune while they sniff my exhaust, so I wonder if I have options other than ordering a Gastester from Europe. I suppose I could buy one and re-sell it when I'm satisfied with my tune.

My question is - how do you regular guys like me check their CO? Do you have relationships with mechanics that own a tester, or are you all buying Gastesters?

If you want to try my maps, then you need to adjust the LTFT & IFT as I outline on my maps page to get good results. My map needs a more positive or larger IFT setting than the oem map for the idle mixture to measure the same exhaust CO.

Find a performance tuning shop with a dyno & 4 or 5-gas exhaust analyzer. Ask then for a exhaust sniff at idle while you adjust IFT. I doubt they will turn down your money.

Some owners can adjust IFT roughly by ear. Adjust IFT up & down to find where the LEAN rough idle IFT setting starts and where the RICH rough idle IFT setting starts. Should have a good idle between these values. Re-set the IFT to 1/3 the difference of these IFT values, added to the lean IFT value. So, if lean is at IFT of +10 and the rich is at IFT of +30 for example, then set the IFT to ((30-10) * 0.333) + 10 = ~17.

    Good luck,

    Catfish ...

Thanks for taking the time to type up those details Catfish. My issue is that I've contacted several shops in the area and none of them are interested in my money so far....

I tried downloading one of your maps today (as they seem to be the best about) but the green light on the tuneecu flashed, and flashed and flashed! left it for about 4 hours and still flashing, any ideas?

Using tuneECU to download a map to the bike, you should get a green bar at the top of the screen, this will fill up as it downloads the map to the ECU. The green flashing light you mention is tuneECU's way of letting you know that comms between the ECU and PC are healthy. (some data will be passing between the two such as air temperature voltages etc this is why it will flash almost constantly when connected)

    John,

READ the links I referred you to in your other thread. You need to follow the download procedures EXACTLY as stated. From what you are writing in 3 different threads, it appears to me that you are skipping half the steps. That will never work correctly.

READ & understand BEFORE attempting any downloads.

    Good luck,

I don’t need to trek through Africa and I don’t need to climb Everest — I need to ride every f***ing curvy road between here and there. That’s far more powerful. Far more majestic. Far more of a journey.

If you want to build the cable yourself, I have some leftover bike-side connectors (just the white plastic part with 6 metal pins). I can send them for 8 € (with Paypal).

Hi catfish, may I change the rpm value(see http://img545.imageshack.us/img545/4784/capo.png) between 64 and 90 C* to 1450?My idle is quite erratically now.

The idle speed vs. temperature table in my map is NOT the cause of your rough idle. Yes, you can raise the idle speed with those table values, but I do not recommend that. You need to find the real cause of your idle problem & fix that.

What does "My idle is quite erratically now" mean in detail? A bad idle that nearly dies is usually a vacuum leak in the hoses near the throttle bodies.

    Good luck,

your bike is lean or rich, put a gastester on it and adjust the IFT when the engine is WARM
