So what is the scoop on the mirror removal to change the oil?

Oh yeah, it gets better you also have to take the dash apart, this is the biggest *facepalm* design ever I guess I'll be using the best full syn I can get and just change it once a year in the fall before storage. Not too bad I usually only do 3-4k a season

Is this just on the ST2?

    Why would they be exclusive?

I think all the STs are a PITA to work on. Starting at the top:
    Remove mirrors
Remove Dash Pieces (3 screws.2 plastic covers)
    Remove windshield/front fairing
Remove Turn Indicator lights from previous fairing
Remove little cover over the air intake
    Remove the chin piece
    Remove the side fairings
    Remove the Belly pan
Oh, most of these fastners were screwed into well-nuts, so plan on having some replacements for re-assembly
    Now you can change oil!

After a time or two you'll find some shortcuts. But I typically check the valves when I've got it this far apart.
If motorcycling were golf, I'd be riding with a 40 handicap!

I think my first upgrade after the first oil change will to be reinstalling all the fairings with the dzus conversion

There is somebody who sells a quick release system that lets you remove the mid and lower fairing without the rest of the bullshit (desmotimes?). Uses Dzus fasteners. I might even have one around that you can have if I can find it. About the clutch. The basket is softer than the disk tangs so that will have to be replaced. Ride it for a while before the expense of that.

2006 Vespa GT200-bitubo suspension all around, Malossi big-bore, head and cam, Akrapovic pipe, all put together by Micah.

gone 2002 Caponord-Oyster gray (as faithful as a hound dog)
gone Futura-Red (on the AF1 showroom floor. Get some.)

I have to say you guys have been WAY more helpful than the ST section on the ducati board, they don't seem to have time for noobs or are mostly "I don't know take it to the dealer" types.

Great Bike, hell I turned down a sweet dealon a Caponord in europe just so I could get my St4s, still one of my favorite bikes. Too bad its in Italy...then again mayeb not, Italy has some of the best places to ride in the world. For me here's what i love about the bike: Best seat, best sound w termis, great mpg's easily over 45 mpg and riding in Europe, not here going 55-70 on hwys. Great handling and best of all lots of low end grunt! Don't like, service costs, damn desmo belt service over 350 euros every 2 years!
    Enjoy a great bike
PS look at my avatar, its the Duc on Gibraltar

I got them thank you, way more impressive than I expected even pictures with arrows, don't think I could tackle the valve adjustments I bet its easier than it was to try and read but the clutch replacement looks pretty simple.

    If you change your mind....

The valve measurement/adjustment (shim replacement) is really easier than it looks. Maybe I should say "simple" instead of "easy". For me, the most difficult part was getting my brain wrapped around the whole "Desmo" thing. I have a spare head off a 2-valve ducati (750) that you're welcome to "practice" on if you ever decide to tackle the valves. I also have a clutch tool when you're ready for that, just let me know.

I`m not sure what ST2 you guys are working on but mine is very simple. The spin on oil filter in located in a recess in the bottom of the engine which is accessible with the fairings ON. Even if you wanted to make sure of the access, the lower fairings come off by themselves. To remove the middle fairings you have to take the mirrors off. And the oil fill is accessible with the middle fairings on if you have one of those long thin funnels.
    No big deal.

And I`m actually looking forward to doing the valve inspection next time as the ST2 access is really good. I believe it`s the older SS models that require the rear shock to be removed to do the rear exhaust valve!

As I recall from my ST4, there are a couple of screws that can't be accessed without having the mid-faring off. Which means dash panels, mirrors, upper, middle... A fucking whip. I will say I saw a guy in Denver who just left his lowers off altogether. He had a solar charger on the battery to combat the woefully inadequate charging system. Ugly as fuck, but as he said, at least it would start in the cold.
