    Hi there

12,000 km with out servicing, that is asking for trouble.

Start by checking the obvoius parts, it would appear that your noise is related to a moving parts or parts, so start by checking the drive belt condition and the variator, check the rollers.
Next check the centrifugal clutchand the clutch bell

carefully inspect all visible moving parts, if nothing appears worn or damaged, perhas it would be better to take your bike to mechanic or the aprillia dealer.

    Good luck

You may need to change your drive gears, if the oil in there has gone bad.

I'd just start checking the variator and clutch parts for wear. If you don't find anything there, check the final drive gears for wear. Also, check to see if the brake pads are rubbing against the disk, or if the disk is warped at all.

I'd recommend servicing your scoot more often. Either suck it up and take it to a dealer, or get some tools, and take care of it yourself. Motorcycles and scooters need more maintenance than cars. On a car, if something breaks, you are most likely just going to end up on the side of the road calling a cab. On a motorcycle, if the same thing breaks you might end up dead.

    peace,

yo sr50 rider... i had tha same problem wit my scooter a while back... from the way you described it, all it is (i think) is that the rollers have a massive flat spot on them and that the cylinder is reaching full rpm (which explains tha vvvv v vvvvvv vvvv vvvvvvvv thing)... since tha rollers have a flat spot, they wont spread out as far meaning the vario cups wont push the v-snaar (belt) up to the top (does that make sense ppl?) also i was told that tha v-snaar (the belt) was wearing out when i first noticed this... but that wasnt true... kevlar is next to indestructable...
i hope it aint anything with tha cylinder... that would suck sooo much...
good luck wit ur scooter, take a look at tha transmission (buy a mhr vario if u got tha cash lying around...) and yah... hope it aint nuthin to serious...

    It's rollers and/or fixed pulley

    Just had the same problem.
Check the center hole on the fixed pulley (one w/ fins) too make sure it is not out of round or spinning on the shaft when tightened down.
More than likely, you need rollers anyway, but it sounds like some of them may be flat or worse.
I would do this ASAP before you start destroying your vario assembly.
