    Stuck stepper motor / AIC

When I fired up my bike today it idled at around 4K RPM.
Since it was a cold morning I decided it would probably settle down after a minute or so.

Remarkably the bike kept idling around the 4K mark. Since I lubricated the throttle grip I figured I accidentally refitted the throttle wron, taking out all free play by accident.

After some roadside repair time I ruled out the throttle cable. So next thing was to see if a vacuum haso had come off.

All the hosed were fine which made me suspecious of the AIC / stepper motor.

It turned out the AIC was stuck open. After taking it off the airbox I manually moved the AIC piston and refitted it. After this the bike was fine.

Which brings me to my question: have any of you ever had the same problem with the stepper motor being stuck open and not responding?

I've only seen that once on a Futura (same AIC stepper motor).

Usually, when the AIC motor is stuck or malfunctionning, the ECU will post a EFI error because it tried to adj the stepper but the stepper did not send back tach pulses as it turned.

Have you replaced the TPS or ECU lately?

Either way, after replacing the AIC stepper motor, you must use the Navigator or AXONE to adj it.
I would try cleanning the stepper valve and then reset it (teach-in procedure).

No, havnt touched the AIC / TPS or ECU. The bike has been running flawlessly up till yesterday when all of the sudden it started idling high.

I will start the bike today just to see if it runs ok now.

Every once in a while I will clean and slightly lubricate the AIC plunger just to make sure it will continue to work. Have actually done that a few months ago.

    Check for vacuum leaks.
