Hi new to the forum, just bought a New RS 50 and as of yet it is still restricted. I have been quoted by a mechanic £490 for the derestriction. This includes new arrow exhaust, new carburetor and new chain and sproket's. Does this sound about right? I was going to just derestrict the standard exhaust and rejet the carb but was told this was harmful to the engine, is this correct?

Very nice looking bike, If your going to de-restrict it. Your best bet is to get it done by the dealer you got it from. That way it will keep its warranty. When i brought my bike new, the dealer de-restricted it for an extra 60 pound.

the older rs50 is as simple as a kids puzzle and im sure the newer one is too.

ye that sounds more financially viable. Does the bike run alright? the shop that i bought it from ( the one that want's me to spend £500 on performance parts) said it wont run well if derestricted with original parts, Is this a load of bull?

Well with mine, it runs perfect 55mph at around 11k revs. Obviously dont ride constant at high revs, but yeah. All they did on mine was upgrade the (i think) front sprocket. And thats it.

isn't there a restrictor in the exhaust and carb? I may be wrong. Mine restricted wont rev past 7-8k rpm.

I have had a look through the forum. I am aware of threads about the derestriction process of an RS 50 but my question was primarily about what the dealer had suggested as an option ( the £490 quote and the performance upgrades ) and others opinions on this matter. Apologies if this exact question has been asked before.

There will definately be a catalytic converter in the expansion chamber. Carb may have been restricted by use of a smaller jet.Originally Posted by RSolly

Fit an Arrow or Giannelli pipe, Bigger (+-10%) Mainjet, 1 tooth bigger front sprocket, 1 grade high sparkplug (if its a 8 now you need a 9), and 0.30 reeds.
If you than still feel like getting a bigger carb, i sugest you get a 19mm, not a 21mm.
21mm is a bit much for the stock cilinder and (because of that also) hard to set up perfectly, you always have a little dip/lack of power somewhere accross the RPM range.
Also a good idea to fit an after market CDI unit thats has an improved ignition timing curve.
