    New Sidebags for Scarabeo 500ie

So last night I was down at my local Cycle Gear getting my helmet visor fixed, when I looked at sidebags. I'm going to need a set for my upcoming 4-5 day Sierra Nevada tour in September. I walked out with a set or Cortech soft sidebags. Here's a link to the main Cortech website: http://www.tourmaster.com/xcart/cata...-p-146_31.html

I was a little worried about the heat coming off the tailpipe, but if you move the bags forward, there's about 10 inches of clearance. Even moved forward, a second rider is comfortable. Here are a few pictures of them on my bike.

    Can't wait for my tour!!!

    Pretty Bike...

I love the blue color, mines gray. Good luck on your trip and please post when you get back as to how well the bags hold up.

Nice! I've got a set of Neison Riggs bags to mount up to the Beo, but I've never used them. My long distance bike's got hard side cases and a trunk.

It looks like you're all set up for touring now. Don't forget your Cat O-ring! Cheapest Cruise control ever and a hell of a lot easier than installing, or troubleshooting, a real CC system (DAMHIK). The part number is 8M4991.

Also, those pics are HUGE, lol. I'm guessing they match the sail boat of a Givi screen. I had to take mine off to help deal with the heat.

Thanks! I plan to post updates regularly on my trip + pictures!

Does anyone know how to make the pictures not so big? I uploaded them from the "My Pictures" file on my PC.

Catepillar O-ring. It's just that... it's an O-ring that is slightly smaller than most grips that fit on 7/8" bars. You keep it on the grip (throttle side) when riding normal and roll it between the grip and the bar end when you want to maintain a set speed. It keeps the throttle tube from returning to idle by friction. Just Google the part number and you'll see a few good pages with examples of it in use. It's more common among motorcyclists than "the wave", hehe.

Using a web picture hosting site or grabbing a picture resizing utility (irfanview is a good free one) are the easiest ways of resizing a pic.

Hi Golfnut, woodpaq here, and stating that I have purchased the same set of bags for my '07 Beo and really am happy with my purchase, used on eBay for 42.00, but one thing about it, I have the straps and the strap holes on both front and back of the saddlebags, and if you purchased yours new, did they come with additional mounting straps to mount them more securely to the bike? Went to Academy to see if they had some adaptable straps to use with the bag and some were close but didn't snap into the inserts of the bags. I made a shoulder strap for general carry but can't find any factory snaps, and seems a few calls to Cortech didn't come to any help yet.

Also, I went to Corpus a month ago, had my full packed saddlebags, the Cortech Backpack w/helmet pocket, the Tunnel bag between the legs, and the same Givi Topbox you have, and I was so set, but your gas mileage will suffer with all the added weight, but that's what I love about the Beo, with all the room under the seat, and add ons you can apply, you could take a trunk's worth of goods with you and have everything you need without the stress of cramming lol, the most functional of two wheeled cycles. Ride on Beo!!!

It did come with straps. The only place to attach them are the grab rails on the tail. You don't have anywhere to mount the front straps.

With as tight as you can get the main velcro connecting straps under the seat, do you really need the additional small straps?

I was never sure if I did or not, but I'm glad to know someone else has the same product, yet doesn't find it critical for a secure mount. What I ended up doing was using a quality bungee cord to go under the fender and back to the other side on the front and rear of the saddlebag and it does marvelously. I guess I'm more for making it look like it's secured in case it isn't convenient to remove all that luggage to go into a gas station or something quick. I have no problems with movement or anything, and like you, just tighten the velcro connects as much as possible and close the seat to secure. Gotta love it!!!!!

Another option that I've thought about with the Beo IE is taking the passenger peg housings off and threading the webbing under them then reattaching them. It'd give a nice solid mounting point and you'd have webbing against plastic, which might cause some rubbing, but it seems like it'd be minimal.

If nothing else, a strap/bungee at the front bottom or middle attaching one side to the other should be pretty sufficient. Those Cortech bags look nice.

nice looking bike , i like the color. i noticed you have small weights on the handlebar ends. if you will set up rear shocks to stiffest setting and get larger weights for the handlebar ends the givi box came with the heavier weights do you still have them ?n you will notice a better ride over potholes as well as vibration reduction .the larger weights help absorb shocks to the front tire too . try it you'll like the ride difference.
