    Another Aprilia Dealer Gone

South Suburban Triumph in Chicago Heights Illinois has closed their doors, and the building has been cleaned out. The notice on the window said the owner, Marty, has decided it's time to retire.

Yep, I pass this place weekly. One week it looked like business as usual and the next, empty.

As of a few days ago, DGY in Downers Grove, IL no longer sells Aprilia's either. They only had the brand for 2-3 years. I talked to someone in service and they said getting parts was a big problem. I thought this issue was solved?

I stopped by DGY some time ago looking to see if they had an RSV4 on the floor. The sales manager told me they had them "on order". I asked him if their mechanic had been trained to work on them and if they had already purchased the tools and parts support package for the bike. He had no idea what I was talking about. My conclusion was they had no intention of getting an RSV4. I wouldn't believe anything you heard there. My WAG is that they couldn't make money selling Aprilia there, and not that there was a problem getting parts.

It is solved. You do actually have to pay for your previous parts to keep your account open and more new parts headed your way.

That's what I thought. This dealer is arrogant. They sell all the Jap bikes too and picked up the Aprilia line about 2-3 years ago, but never promoted the brand. It's a classic case of a Jap dealer picking up a European line expecting them to sell themselves without any promotion. I knew they would fail.

It just sucks that I have no competent dealers within a 3-4 hour radius to do the fuel pump line recall and now I have to do it myself.

Yeah i was disappointed that south suburban closed. The mechanic wanted to buy it. There was also a business man from Indiana and Marty wouldnt sell it to em. I would love to open a European bike dealership in the area. Just dont have that kind of money right now.

When you open up the dealership, let me know, and I'll hang out and drink your coffee.......

Two down in the Chicago area...dang! Glad I have a local, independent shop, to lean upon when needed (AF1 is pretty much their exclusive parts supplier). If anyone in the Chicago area is looking for a shop, let me know. I can steer you to a good team in the Western suburban area.

Regarding DGY, without an Aprilia dealership it will be interesting to see how long it takes them to sell the 2-3 Bold'r RSVs they have in stock. I've seen them on Ebay a bunch of times in the past 6 months and they haven't moved.

I used to work at an Aprilia dealership, getting parts was not really a problem unless you were trying to get older body pieces or parts for an RS250 then not every part was available. I think when Piaggio bought them they stopped dealing with certain suppliers, I think it mostly impacted the scooter parts though (Piaggio makes their own). Later I worked at a Husky dealer and wow, that was hard to get parts, even after BMW bought them from Cagiva.

WOW. It will now be a privilege to those that see an Aprilia on the road in the Great Lakes/ Tri-State area.

I don't believe there are any Aprilia dealers north of St. Louis area in Illinois, none in Wisconsin, and none that I personally know about in Indiana.

Good luck to anyone needing service, or wanting to sell their bike. The only sale you're gonna get is someone that is of good mechanical skills and a connoisseur of motorbikes or a long distance traveler. Good thing I am planning on keeping mine for now. Still have yet to see an RSV4 rolling around anywhere near Chicago & Burbs. Ridiculous really concidering Chicago is a very large city and a populated area including Milwaukee only an hour away.

Guess Aprilia will be a Texas or California only brand soon.

The good news is I will still enjoy continued questions as to what is that bike I'm riding?

    Just outside Madison
Ducati Milwaukee would not be a bad choice for service, but since they aren't a dealer, parts might be an issue
If I could find a way reasonable way to ship bike to New Braunfels I would

I don't understand the logic of not selling a business and choosing just to shut it down and liquidate inventory. Perhaps the buyers had no money and wanted the owner to finance their purchase? The least work for the owner is to just sell the business and hand over the keys.

The aprilia dealer 2 hrs south of me went out of business a year ago, the dealer 2 hours north dropped the aprilia line, said the main reason was because it was so hard to get parts.

Just got off the phone with my local dealer and they dropped the motorcycle line and only selling scooters now, said because they couldn't sell them with the Yamaha and Honda's in their showroom.

For over a year of going there I only saw 2 tuno's sitting in the corner and no other models.
Hell when I was looking to buy a shiver they told me they wouldn't bring one in until I put down a non refundable deposit. How could they expect to sell anything with that attitude.

Now there are only 2 aprilia motorcycle dealers in my state that are 4 and 5 hrs away, the other 11 dealers only sell scooters

A motorcycle is a joy machine. It's a machine of wonders, a metal bird, a motorized prosthetic. It's light and dark and shiny and dirty and warm and cold lapping over each other; it's a conduit of grace, it's a catalyst for bonding the gritty and the holy.
