    Laser Eye Surgery

    Anyone on here had it?

If so, how did it go?

    Thumbs up Lasered eye

Yep, had my right eye done. I'm trying out monovision, I'll use my lasered perfect right eye for distance and my left -0.75 eye for reading. However the consultant said that you need 100% depth perception for motorcycle riding which means wearing a contact lens in my left eye when riding to give me 20/20 vision...

Surgery was a little scary but it all went well. I was told to expect a considerable amount of pain and discomfort but the worst I had was some minor iritation, I think I was lucky.

Even now after six weeks there is still some healing going on so it is a bit blurry but I've been told this is normal and it could take a few months before my eye reaches it's full prescription.

I had lazek rather than lazik or the other way round, the one were they disolve the cornea because it was too thin to have a flap cut.

I also had a second procedure because my pupil in the dark is larger than average at 6.5mm which is larger than the treated area, if not done it can leave a staring effect from head lights etc at night.

It's not the type of thing you recommend for someone else, it's definitely a personal choice.

I had Lasik surgery done in 2002. And my vision is still in top shape. I went from 20/100 to 20/15 after the procedure.

My only recommendation is to follow the post op routine to the letter. I had a series of eye drops that went on for a week after the surgery. I also wore protective eye patches while sleeping, to keep you from rubbing your eyes while you are asleep. I think I wore those for about 10 days.

But the results were amazing. I was annoying the hell out of my wife by reading license plates, seeing raindrops on leaves, just stupid everyday stuff that I never saw properly before, even with glasses.

The doctor said I would probably see halos around oncoming headlights for 1 month until the cornea swelling went down. And sure enough, the halos went away after 3 1/2 weeks.

I am happy that I had it done. And to not have to wear glasses under your helmet is great.

    Thumbs up

I didn't have to wear eye pads for sleeping because I had lazek, no flap cut so there was nothing to dislodge if I rubbed my eyes, I did however poke my self in the eye with the corner of my pillow...fooking'ell I felt that....

Good advice on the post op routine, make sure you do as they say.

With lazik it takes a while to see, no pun intended, the full bennefit of the treatment because the cornea has to fully grow back having been disolved and scrubbed off....I never felt a thing...

    Mucky bastards!!
The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

All good stuff, I'm waiting for the eye people (opticians I think they like to be called) to ring me back with a date for a consultancy.
