    Crappy gearbox!

OK, after it's recent 6km service, I'm still having hassle.
Most of the time I'm fine, have no problems with my bike, but this seems to be happening more and more often now....

When I've stopped at a set of lights, and they turn green, I can engage 1st normally ok, but then as I go for 2nd, I will hit a false neutral, so give it another tug and 90% it goes in ok. However, what happens in the other 10% is that it'll either stick in gear, and simply stick in neutral. The 'N' warning light never comes on at this point so god knows, and normally result in me wheeling the bike to the side of the road. At this point my gear lever isn't budging. It's in neutral but no matter how hard I push down/up it won't move.

Especially scary when this happens as your stranded in the middle of a junction.

Turn the bike off, leave it a bit, give it a fiddle and it'll be ok in a few minutes. But why is this happening? The biting point on my clutch is at the very end and I've been told to replace it. Has this got anything to do with it or not?

    All help/suggestions are greatly welcomed!!

    Cheers.

You should be able to tell if your clutch is gone and needs replacing, but as racing aprilia said change your oil. Be nice to the bike and she'll be nice back; you're supposed to change gearbox oil every 3,000 miles if I remember correctly.

Check the screws on the rearsets/shift lever

I was cursing my gearbox during a ride. The bike kept sticking in 1st gear. Upon closer inspection, I realized that the shift lever screw was winding its way out and keeping the shift lever from moving up and down. The single cylinder engine buzzes everythng loose.

    Ride safe.

I hear that the gear boxes suck in the Aprilias. I had problems with that in my race. I was told to change my gear oil every race. I was also told to adjust the shifter lever. Oh, and to shift firmly.

im having the same problem.... all down the straight the freakin thing is jumping outta gear......not to mention the gearing SUCKS!!!! Its pretty frustrating gettting passed by YSRs cuz you cant keep your fvcking bike in gear

Does anyone know of anyone building a decent tranny or of there is something i can do to at least get mine to stay in gear???

You gonna be at cmrra this weekend Lisa??? im going and bringing my chick and her quad I just bought her and my dirtbike.

We went up there for practice this weekend and had a BLAST riding all around the track too.. lol

Depending on how much a decent tranny runs me... im thinking of picking up an XR100 abnd saying SCREW the 2-smokes!!!!

Thing is, according to the guys at the garage and the itemised bill I got back, gear oil had been drained and replaced, infact all oils, fluids, etc were replaced.

I'll go take a closer look at the gear lever, hopefully it is just a case of loose screws ... doubt it though

Metrakit make a aftermarket tranny for the RS50 although its quite pricey, i belive AF1 has one fitted to their race bike.
