    First service

Just booked my dorso in for its first service. I wasn't expecting a £200 price tag for it! They said it requires valve clearance check which i now see is right. Wish they had said about it when i bought it so i was prepared! My suzuki gsxr i had before cost £30 for its first service and my mate's zx6r cost him that too. Is this the sort of price you guys had to pay for your bikes 1st service?

If you look up and read about the first services on here I think on average most cost about £100 or just over.
I do believe Aprilia said there is no longer a need to check the valve clearences at first service.
    I know mine weren't done.
MH_dorso is the first case I have heard of of something going wrong with them.
Your bike is under warrenty so its no big deal if they don't check them.

Mine was £200 too with valve clearance check. There was never any official communication from aprilia that valve clearance checks were not required, therefore I would always advise to do them, one bike out of tolerance after only a few thousand miles is enough to pursuade me to pay for it.

But Strada (with his amazing looking DD) is correct, your under warranty so dont worry too much.

    Question

In my opinion, if the valve clearances needed checking at 600 miles, then it should be part of the service to keep the warranty valid.

Mine weren't checked, but at 2500 miles they were deffo out.

I'll report back whether Aprilia do this as part of warranty or not, I haven't paid yet and hopefully won't have to.

Make a decision Aprilia, not a recommendation.

Wait till you get to the 12000 mile service. I have just been quoted £300 labour, £70 materials plus 17.5 % tax Apperenalty APrilia say the cam cover gaskets cant be reused so noew one will be fitted. I think I will ask them to keep the old ones and if new shims get charged for I will ask for the old ones for a memento

That sounds expensive! What's the cost like for normal servicing or are they all quite costly?

First service was £156. They signed my book fo the 6000 mile service and let me do it (not a lot to do though).
The dealer did say that the price given may be lower if not tom any valves need adjusting. And he reackons that it wil take almost a complete day to do and the labour rate is £50 per hour, £300 equates to 6 hours which seems a bit long, maybe it isnt. But I also know the mechanic is very through and checks every thing on the schedule without exception (lubing forrt rest pivots for example). I will have to wait and see. I also have to say that maybe this ois part of the price I have to pay forhte warrentee claims I have had, with never one complaint from the dealer. One who no longer sells Aprilia BTW
I also asked for a quote for the big service on a Suzuki Vstrom 650. About £250 if the valves need doing. Not to sure how this compares
